Forecast is showing potential for a snowstorm next Monday. It's still early yet. Last year at this time the ground was bare. This will turn around.

From 06/07

If this keeps up it will look like this:

maybe during daylight, but not the first sleds of the season.

we were there at a little after 1am and from what i hear there were a lot of sleds out saturday.

with all the snow we got that night you could hardly see any of our tracks from 6-8 hrs earlier.

we got a late start sunday once the sun came up, but could hardly see our tracks to the fire tower.

unfortunatly the only pics from that day are still on my phone.

Looks like the one in Shrewsbury. Its a great place to ride. If 7N isn't too bumpy, follow it all the way from your area up there. You can make a loop in Plymouth and head back south around Okemo.

Oh, and if you know where the trail is, you can get up on top of Shrewsbury peak - I think its the same elevation as Glastonbury, but its very close to Killington/Pico, and has some amazing views.

The guy in the picture didnt realize how deep it was and had already made it through. In the picture he actually turned around and was crossing it so 9 more of us didnt have to cross it. We're trying to get him sponsorship from Tracker or some other bass boat company!!

is the trail to the peak on the map and or marked.

the signage in that area isn't the best. we ended up on just about every trail in that area other than a couple of ungroomed secondary trails.

as i recall there was one maybe at the north end of the clearing where the stone house is.

one of the trails we were on ended on a paved rd, tracks continued but there was a sign posting no sleds by some order of a town council.

we turned around and ended up on what looked like another dead end that was on the catamount (or whatever its called) ski trail.

it was getting late, so we headed back to woopford

btw: this was our first time that far north of woopford.

No, I don't think its marked on the maps - but I don't have a 2007/2008 map. It never used to be. And to be honest, I haven't rode there in a few years now, so when I say "find the trail", I wasn't trying to sounds as if I know and you don't....I mean it literally. If you look on the old maps, There used to be 2 ways, and one of them would leave right from the little lot at the stone house. There are a couple of other trails off that too. One day I actually found myself at some abandoned ski slopes. It looked tempting, but guess it was off limits, so I didn't play there.

There are a lot of Rutland County guys on here now, so I'm sure someone will speak up and tell you exactly what trail to get there. Maybe if we get some snow back, I'll trailer over there and see if I can refresh my memory....

I used to ride from there down to Woodford a lot, but 7 is about the only way to go, and that trail gets beat pretty bad.

The trail up to Shrewsbury Peak has been closed off for 3-4 years now. The hikers didn't like seeing all the scratch marks on the rocks from the studs. It WAS an amazing view from the top. (Well I guess it's still a great view but now you have to hike up in the summer!)

For you guys riding up from Woodford area, it might be a pain in the ass, but strap some snowshoes to your back - park at the stone house, and shoe-it up there. Its worth it. I saw a moose almost every time I headed up as well.
