The fish is always great at Checkpoint. My buddies parents bought it. The food is all the same, but I think they have been adding a few things here and there and seeing if the are going go over good.
Hoerman, do you go there often? I havent been up since gun hunting because we had great snow down here. If you were in during hunting Im sure I was there too. I logged more hours in the bar then out in the woods.

My wife and I get there once or twice a week. Great food and a good place to see neighbors and relatives. Did miss all the excitement on New Years Day though! LOL

I just talked to the Langlade Co. Forestry Department and they said they are planning to re-open the northern 2/3 of the trails by the middle of the week.

Forecast is calling for up to 5 inches tonight through thursday. High on Sunday is -2. We'll see what happens. Just had breakfast at Hills Still in Pickerel this morning. Trails are closed yet, but they are groomed and look good where they cross the highways. Should be a good game in Green Bay this weekend!! Frozen Tundra!!! chillpill.gif

Good deal thanks for the report. Maybe I will run into ya at checkpoint this weekend. Bret

Just talked with my brother-in-law. He does some of the dragging. He said all of the trails were dragged before the 6-7 inches of snow we got. The wind didn't come as strong as they were calling for, so we didn't get the drifting as bad as we could of in the flats. Was -23 here this morning. BRRR!!! I would think trails will be in pretty good shape. Can tell you more after wednesday, wife has the day off, will be on the trails then. Take care and stay warm!!

Cool sounds good. I am heading up Thursday night so will be out riding Friday.

Not sure if we are leaving right from our place our up in Summit lake, but either way it sounds like the trails should be solid.

I went up Saturday Morning to ride in parts of Shawano, Langlade and Marathon County. We road through Bowler, Gresham, Tilleda, Birnamwood, Hatley, Eland and Antigo. It was cold but the trails were in great shape and were being groomed regularly. Traffic was very light and we only saw about 15 sleds the entire time we were out. Again, it was very cold. Locals all said that we were crazy. We said that we were adding to their economy. They liked that answer and welcomed us with open arms. We rode 108 miles last night and 82 this morning. This morning it was -20 degrees without wind child. Trails were in excellent shape. My only regret is that I did not have a camera and that I could not stay longer. If you can get up there this is the best I have seen it in years.
jkd37
We just did the 25 mile Elcho loops and parts of corridor 16 east and west mid day Sunday. Groomers were out Saturday night at we had perfect untouched trails for sundays ride. Packed so hard the only thing touching snow was the wear bars.
srt20
Trails were great! Our group did 375 miles friday and saturday total.

Hey Hoerman or anybody else that might know, How did that girl that hit that dirt pile end up? I was at Checkpoint saturday nite when they brought her in, but I didnt go over by her cuz they said she was really messed up and I was drunk and didnt need to be looking at that stuff.

Btw, we got a ride home from a sober driver in a car. Bret

I now have a place up by Kempster we will have to meet at the Thirsty Bear for one... That is only a 1 1/2 miles from my place...
dntsne1
Thirsty Bear wow I have not been there for years LOL... plenty of good riding out there. Got the official report today that all the trails are SWEEEEEEEEEEEET. Heading up in the AM cause the wife went out for a girls night out.

Just loaded the sled up and taking a break to warm up then load up the truck with all the kids stuff.

Looks like tomorrow my Dad and the guys are leaving from Bryant (from our land) and heading toward Jack Lake and making a loop over to my Aunts (in deerbrook) to meet me and then we are heading west toward gleason.

Saturday theres a poker run out in Pickerel so I am not sure where we are riding, we are talking maybe north.. not sure.

If I get a chance I will log in tomorrow or Saturday.

Ride safe!

Pat

Well the ride on friday was great. I got up here at about 1:30 pm and went out for a ride, left deerbrook and went out toward lilly and south to polar then to bryant. Stopped at the checkpoint for a little and went back to the house (put on 50 miles). Overall the trails were the best in years...

Today we went west toward harrison and then toward tomahawk, the ride out to harrison was GREAT but as the day progressed and the traffic grew and the trails beamce crap. I HOPE THEY GROOM TONIGHT!!!!!!! today 141 miles...
dntsne1
Well the groomer hit right where we wanted it to go. (I think Butch was driving lastnight!!!)

I picked up the groomer trail 1/4 mile from the house and rode it the whole ride. I was the first tracks on the fresh groomed from over by the Revs all the way to our land in bryant and then up into peters marsh and jack lake. From then on we went through augustyn springs and down on the flats and back.

Not a long ride but worth it.

All in all 242 miles this weekend was not bad for the first ride of the season.

According to some regulars at Checkpoint, the girl and her boyfriend were OK. She had a few bumps and bruises, nothing serious they thought. Rumor has it that both of them were supposedly charged with DWI or DUI. They weren't sure which. I'll keep an eye on the news. Good thing you went home before the cops got there! LOL

Rode from Neva to Antigo, out to X-To-C and back to Neva today, about 70 miles. Only saw 2 other machines and the trails were very nice! No rain, snow started at noon and snowing very hard here at 3:30, about 4 inches so far. Here comes the cold!
srt20
Did you lose much snow from this warm weather? It was 45 down here and we pretty much lost everything. Worth coming up this weekend? Thanks Bret

Trails will be great. The VP of the Pickerel Tombstone club says the groomers will be out tomorrow and this weekend should be great. Will be at Pickerel Point, have 2 cabins rented. Will have a friends pro stocker with us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Interceptor is $25.00 a gallon.

alright zrman, well see you there, hopefully trails will be good.

Hopefully Pickerel got out when that snow was softer and broke down the bumps. Word was when the trails closed a few weeks ago they did not groom, so the trail set like a wash board. For there sake I hoped they groomed because they usually do such a good job.

Wish I could come up this weekend but I will be up the next 2 weekends after so I hope even more snow comes...

Your info is wrong, I am a member of tombstone/pickerel club, and they were panning a few weeks ago when they were closed, and then that wednsday and thursday when they received the 8" or so of snow they started grooming again. Also I have been up the last 2 weekends and the trails have been excellent. Started to get a little rough later on Saturday this last weekend, but that is to be expected with all the sled traffic. And there was a poker run or something in Pickerel saturday. But they were groomed already by Sunday morning. Just a little heads up for ya, Bret
dntsne1
As of last Thursday the trails over that way were wash board. You came out of Lilly and they were rough.
This is why we did not go back that way to ride there on Friday and yeah there was a poker run on Saturday we made sure to stay away from there.

Hopefully this has been smoothed out cause like I said they usually do such a great job and is usually part our our normal rides,

We lost some snow in the open fields, but in the woods it was hardly any. I would say we got 5-6 inches from yesterday through last night. The southwest side of Antigo seemed not to have as much snow as we do here at Bryant and north of us they have more. Last weekend was the countywide ride. We were in the Northwoods Diner for breakfast Sunday (Can't get enough of that prime rib for breakfast) and a guy there said they figured they had 500-600 people stop at the Lilly Clubhouse! This saturday is the antique snowmobile ride from Quinn's in Neva. Those old machines bring sure back memory's!!
