I just did an inspection and cleaned my clutches after I put my first 500 miles on for this year and noticed a fair bit of clutch dust around the primary and secondary clutches that seemed to be a bit oily.

I took my secondary off, cleaned up the clutch area, DD cover, and my clutches, I did not notice any possible leaks, I checked the level of the oil and it is just below the DD fill plug (where it should be).

Do the DD's have a vent to relieve any built up pressure in the case that may be causing the oily residue?

Last year before I put the sled away I did the DD flush and filled it back up with the appropriate oil.......I also do not recall having this much clutch dust or oily clutch dust last year after I put 1200 miles on it vs. the 500 miles that I put on so far this year.

The only thing I have done to my clutches this year is changed the weights from 75 grams to 77 grams.

Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

James

My 1000 had a mess in the clutch compartment too.
I found that one of my torx head screws was broken. There is oil everywhere. It is fairly high on the case too.

I was at the dealer the other day and asked if they have had any issues with leakages on the DD, they just happen to have an 07 in the shop that had a faulty seal around the DD shaft.
AC was replacing the entire unit under warranty seeing as this rider just rode his machine until it stopped causing damage...... and then noticed the lack of oil in the DD due to the faulty seal.

I will ride mine again (once we have snow again) and keep an eye on it and then decide what needs to be done if anything.
