we rode from bloomfield to maidstone, island pond, norton, canaan the only water hole we came across was
by pigeons restaurant. all trails were groomed . a friend toured around derby yesterday and he said it
wasn/t bad. hope all of the forecasts are indeed wrong

Trails will indeed be hurt, as I looked at the morning reports, the higher elevations this morning had the warmest temps, which means that its just the start of the warmup. Rain will fall over the next few days as well, and weds rain could be somewhat significant. I would expect anyone out on the trails today, tomorow to find slush conditions, with loads of snirt showing up, especially in corners, and anywhere there was low snow. 50,s will be common above 1000 feet, valleys will fare a bit better due to the inversion, but as they have less snow to begin with, they will be damaged as well. Hope lies in the friday timeframe when a snow storm MAY hit us again,...but it would be a close call for snow or rain, maybe an elevation event. Time to put the sleds away for a few days and save the base. Sorry for the gloom and doom report, but thats where it is.

Just rode the NEK the last three days, and while there are very few open water holes, they are very fragile, and with this thaw, they'll be a lot of water ditches open. All we can hope is that we can get back to real winter soon. Thanks to all the people that maintain these trails. Had a great time as always.

Woodford was outstanding this weekend thanks to fantastic grooming, but all of the tiny feeder trails were garbage. I would think that today will be the last good day for woodford as well.

I agree with this assessment. Although the trails were awesome on Saturday, you could tell that water bars had just barely locked up and it wans't going to take much to open them back up. I'd say mid 40s and rain will do it pretty quickly. My guess is the next few days will put an end to lower elevation trails. East Burke, for example, will be toast. Hopefully the cold weather returns and STAYS!

I don't like 2 things.
1. Warm temperatures in to Wednesday. Even after that it doesn't look extremely cold.
2. Looks like another shot of rain this Friday. Near the Canada line may squeek out some snow/ice Friday......but even there it doesn't look like an all snow guarantee.
Storm possibilities that feature snow: 14th and around the 22nd of Jan.

Wow Gil, those models must suck...but it could be worse..like you I haven't been able to ride yet this year and it killing me...so much for me thinking it would be a normal New England winter and not have good snow til Feb. guess I should have postponed my elbow surgery a couple months.

Looking at new 00Z data right now......early estimate for Friday = 1" to 3" of rain......this would create big flooding problems Statewide in Vermont. The trend is actually warmer. Not good news.....but this is what it is looking like right now. I will continue to post updates that hopefully turn out better.

If this season washes out, I'm done with snowmobiling. Never thought I'd say that. Gonna start spending my winter money on flying south and renting Harleys, or have my bike shipped to a destination and go on a tour. Yeah yeah I know, STFU there's a lot of winter left, but come Feb. when the sun angle is higher, it gets harder to keep snow on the ground. At least I got 750 miles in this year so far.

Thats too bad, don't give up yet. This years been great with every type of riding conditions.
Myself I look at it like this. It seems for the past 3 years we go through a spell where a special snow dance is required. Looking at the weather it looks as the warm spell will snap by Saturday night, it should be around -12. So it looks like this Saturday will be an afternoon chicken BBQ

ending with my special snow dance Saturday Night....
