Help please. Just bought this thing.

99 xlt first year with TM flatslides. Really hard on fuel 5 miles to the gallon. Anything to try to reduce fuel comsuption would be nice.

Also does not backshift good, could feel and hear the motor bog down at high speeds. Any clutch set up would help.

thanks

How many miles on it? Stock jetting and clutching? What belt are you running?

They were jetted way fat from the factory.
Here is What I am running in my 2000 Triumph with the same setup.

340 mains
Raised clips on needles up 2 notches.

Stock carb slides are olive green color. If thats whats in yours get rid of them before they crack and break. Pieces will take out your pistons. updated ones are black.

I checked the carbs and it seem to be stock, clutching too. 8700rpm wide open. Belt is a polaris belt.
Thanks for jetting tip ACEXCR800

Jet the mains to 340, needle to middle clip, fuel screw to 1.5 turns from lightly seated. BR9ES or RN2C plugs. The stock clutching was not far off. Check the buttons in the secondary, and that the spring is in #2 hole, and tensioned properly. The primary should have 10M5 weights, but put a polaris 7041080 spring in, or an epi white. Secondary should have a silver spring, and R32 helix. Belt should be a 3211070.

I am having the same issues.

I just bought my Triumph in Feb and thus far I'm not too excited about it.

First off--the specs: Reverse, M-10, epi clutch kit (primary-silver spring, 10M5 weights; secondary--orange spring, #3 hole), Gates Extreme belt that corresponds to the stock Polaris.

According to the spec sheets, the clutches are hitting all the right marks; engage 4500-4700 with peak at 8500 rpm.

I weigh about 220# but I still could only get the sled to do 70-75mph. I changed the top gear to a 25 tooth and that seems to help (maybe now around 90-95--haven't had a chance to open up a lot).

But I still like my old 500 XC but the wife is riding that one--it is a lot faster (top-end) and quicker.

The main problem that I'm having is the fuel economy--it is in the neighbor of 4-5 mpg and that is even if I'm not riding hard!

It is extremely fustrating!!! If the price wasn't right on it and would dump it!! I could cover the cost of the sled by just selling the M-10.

What do I have wrong with the set-up??

I want the performance (especially fuel to get better) otherwise I can't ride it. Around here you NEED 100-110 mile range or else...

i am pulling 11-12mpg with my Triumph with the carb setup mentioned above, stock clutching at 8200 rpms. Also beats a friends 99 XC 500.

those 99 xc 500's are that fast ace? agents the triumph?
ACEXCR800
Triumph will be the non-ves XC 500's easily. The VES ones are a little more of a problem.

Not this triumph!! I don't know what is up w/ my 2000 500XC but it screams--and I haven't even touched the engine (no mods, no maintenance). I have 8400 miles on it and it'll still pull 105-106. I'm really wishing that I didn't tell my wife that it'll be her sled when I bought my boat.

Now I know the m-10 and reverse will cut the speed but if I can do 90+ that would be fine (hell, 30 mph could kill a person). But not only do I have the speed but also the fuel consumption issue. I should note--I checked the compression and all 3 cyl are right at 141 with no difference between the 3. That is right at spec so I now I don't have a crankcase seal issue.

Help!!
