You sure have to feel for the family. It makes me think twice when my 9 year old daughter is buzzing around te field.

Oh my. This is very sad news indeed. I feel for the family. Anyone have any more detail about this? Was the child wearing a helmet?

Very, very sad.
Last year, when my son was 10 I let him ride a citation 250 around the field by my house, but only right behind my sled. He wore a helmet and a junior racing Tekvest I found on ebay for $40. A couple winters ago he also pulled me in a sleigh behind the citation, but again, at a very slow pace. He had great respect for what he was on, but we all got to remember that kids will not have the same judgment calls as us.
I still wonder if I should have even put him on the sled. You never know when they might get scared and grab a handful of throttle.
Reminds me of last year when someone in the General Snowmobile Forum here was bragging about getting his 10 year old a 600cc Skid-doo Rev. That's just asking for tragedy.
Take care of your little ones.
