Heading to Derby for the weekend with the kids. Bob & Michelle are going and my brother's already up there. He said it was better riding than 2 weeks ago when we went and that was great riding. Hopefully, we'll meet up soon and Happy B-day!

We went up New Year's weekend and it was unbelievable..Monday, it was snowing, we were ripping through fresh powder, and no one was on the trails! You gotta see the pics! Has not been that way in a long time! Have a great time!

Does that mean all of the hard work the groomer operators have done this week will be for not?

Actually a lot of locals in that area pound the freshly groomed trails the same night they groom.

If you see the groomer on the trails in town stop by and say hi!

Actually, if you encounter a freshly groomed trail, please stay off it. Let it set up for a few hours or over night. That will allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy the best trail conditions. Spend 7-8 hours in a groomer and you'll understand.

Pigs would fly first before I would stay off a freshly groomed trail. Doesn't mean that I would tear it up tho.

When the trail has just been groomed and is still soft would be the time to refrain from riding on it. I've made the maiden voyage on many a groomed trail that had 6-8 hours of set up time. The trails just last longer if they have a chance to set up. Ask any groomer operator.

Out-of-staters get blamed for crushing the trails.Problem is WE crush them during the day,get back at 5 or 6 pm.The locals get out of work eat dinner and get on the trails by 5 or 6 pm....Have met many locals who wait to ride at t night because it's SMOOTH and not too much traffic....hmmm this when the grooming operation is taking place.I have been on the trail early in the am and noticed freshly groomed trails have been torn to shit..how could this happen.....Gee,I wonder?!

It is possible to ride without "tearing the shit" out of a trail. Slow down and DON"T BRAAAAAAP BRAAAAAAP THE F'N THROTTLE!
Nothing ruins a trail worse than the piles of dog shit left behind from the people who BRAAAAAAP BRAAAAAAP BRAAAAAAP BRAAAAAAP on the right button all the time.

So..DAMATS..how was this weekend?
The trails were great on Friday and Saturday. Some of the best conditions in a while. On friday we left Lyndonville and headed up to Island Pond to gas up and eat. 114 was in excellent condition. Lyndonville club did a great job also. Trails around Burke were perfect also. All trails were great. After we left Island pond we headed north then hopped on 102 for a while before circling back to IP. 102 was perfect. Then on Saturday we headed east and hopped on the pipeline for a while and rode on 102 and 5 south. Trails were very good there also except for a few small water bars on 5 south. Everything was great untill we were on our way back and my buddies sled broke. He threw a bearing, jackshaft popped out. Thank god we were next to a road and it happened at the very end of our trip. All in all that was probably my best 2 days riding in Vermont in a long time. Warm weather is going to hurt some areas tho.

So..DAMATS..how was this weekend?
Well, we had a Hardcore Sledder in training this weekend...my daughter rode her 500ss for the 1st time. So, we decided to head west from Derby towards Jay just because we figured less traffic for her 1st trip. Well, there was definately less traffic and I would of been better off on a Sea Doo. Holy open water bars. One had to be 4 feet deep! Anyway, She did 50 miles safely so we were thrilled. On Sunday we trailered to Island Pond and rode out of there for a quick blast before heading home and it was mint! Northeast, definately way to go. This week's warmup is gonna be bad up there,

hopefully the base can hold up. When are you going?

Sometimes it seems those whom purchase TMAs figure they should ride when ever without consideration of others. Interesting comments on the Riding During Warm Weather Post.

I have the utmost respect for the groomers and all the hard work they do an a volunteer basis, and my riding on fresh trails in no way slaps them in the face because I have no clue if a trail was groomed an hour ago or eight hours ago. How do I know when the trail has "set up?" If we just always go easy on the throttle in corners and avoid the sudden starts and stops, the trail should be fine for those who come behind. Respect, that's all

Don you are right. The trail was groomed the night before and about 5-6 inches fell overnight and we were the first tracks the next morning. What a feeling!
