Here is the story I heard. The person that owns property to the left just as you get onto the lake put up a orange snow fence to keep people from riding over his docks. At some point, someone knocked the fence down and people started riding around a water hole. I can understand not wanting to ride through the hole, and the land owner not wanting studs ripping up his wooden dock. I checked this out for myself, I went through the hole no problem, it wasn't that big. Landowner came out started yelling, guy on sled punched him in the face, knocked him down and kicked him in the ribs while he was on the ground. The landowner was about 60 years old, absolutely no call for what happened to him. The guy that punched him is a gutless turd. Again, this is what I heard around town. Guy was on a Orange Cat, green snowmobile suit.
REWARD!! - The Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club is offering a $200.00 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the snowmobiler who assaulted a RLSC Trail land owner on Sunday December 30th @ 3:30pm. The assault occurred in Russell Cove where the trail crosses Route 4 in front of the ClubHouse Restaurant. The assailant was a male, about 6 feet tall and may have been driving an orange machine. There was a female and several other males in his riding group.
If you have any information please contact Club President, Steve Dudley @ 207-864-5919. He will pass the information on to the proper authorities.
This short trail from Route 4 to the Lake is a vital link in our trail system. Losing it would be a disaster for local businesses and for snowmobilers. This was the most despicable act by a snowmobiler that the RLSC has ever encountered. We want this person punished!http://www.rangeleysnowmobile.com/new.htm

What is society coming to . . . running over a guy walking his dog and driving away leaving the guy with two broken legs . . . punching a landowner in the face . . . man, some folks really seem to want to ruin the good thing we've got going in Maine in terms of public access on private land.
This story kind of reminds me of an incident that happened a few years back with my Uncle. Long story short, it was hunting season and a couple of folks from away were hunting without permission on my Uncle's land (not posted but my Uncle prefers people to ask before hunting) . . . he attempted to get their attention by blowing their car's horn . . . eventually the guys came out and basically beat the snot out of him (enough to give him a concussion) before driving away . . . end result = my Uncle's and father's land is now closed to all hunters unfortunately. It only takes one time . . . and one bad apple . . . whether it be a hunter or a sledder.

I hope this despicable excuse for a snowmobiler gets caught, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and has his balls tacked to the wooden dock for all to rip over.

Thinking of the Landowner:
Are there any suggestions on how to let the gent who got assaulted know that we are not all bad and we are thinking of him?
Should we pitch in and get him a big gift cert. to Loon Lodge or similar?
I would be glad to start this off with $25.
I have paypal and will gladly pick up the cert the weekend of the 11th.
I will need to know where to drop it though.
Just for the record, there are several folks on this site who will vouch for my integrity, just so you do not think I will run with your $$.

This is one of the best posts yet . . . threatening the moron with violent acts is unreasonable and not likely to happen, accusing the idiot from being from State A, B, C, etc. is not helpful . . . what would be helpful and reasonable is to have folks think hard about who this guy could be and to keep an eye out for this guy (just be aware that it is possible that more than one guy could be wearing a green jacket while riding an orange sled) and then report it to the appropriate agencies.
In the meantime I think getting this landowner a gift certificate would be very appropriate. I might suggest you contact the club in Rangeley for more info and to see if this is something they might get on board with as well . . . and then let us know how to send in a donation (I personally like using Pay Pal.)

I’ll vouch for Glock30’s integrity. I also think that if we are going to do this for the landowner we may offer up more than the above mentioned Gift Certificate. With gas and oil prices through the roof why not fill his oil or propane tanks? Maybe get him a gas card or even offer to get a crew to his house this spring and fix his dock if it needs repair. Just a couple of idea’s, I just hope that were not too late to help RLSC fix this. I agree with firefighterjake in trying to get in touch with the club to find out how to get the donation to this gentleman. He may not be too keen on seeing a bunch of guys on sleds pull up to his house right now.

When a consensus is reached with the club on how we can best help out this landowner I will go through the posts and PM all those who said they will donate and give them my PayPal info.
I will then follow the clubs suggestion and purchase the appropriate gift cert. (Lumber Yard, Oil Company, IGA etc.)

Guys, I will tell you this, you will not find a more honest man on this planet than Glock 30.
That said I am still in disbelief about this incident, I was shocked beyond words when I read this on the RLSC web site,
these types of things arn't supposed to happen in Rangeley, this is city type of shit (apologies to all you city dwellers).
If this 100' of trail were to close it would absolutely kill that side of town.
Put me down for $25.00 Glock 30, I also like Kubota 3130s idea about helping the landowner out with damage control.

Thank you all for turning this into a constructive thread (not that the bashing part wasn't warranted). As I posted on the RLSC site, the reward is js just a shot in the dark to see if someone knows this guy and will come clean. The 65+ y/o landowner didn't in any way deserve this callous assault.
As for contributing to the reward - if you're truly serious PM me and I'll keep tabs and keep updating the posted reward announcement. And as far as chipping in to help with repairs go, feel free to touch base with Steve Dudley through his email address on the RLSC web site. It would be wonderful if we can somehow make amends for this act - an action which in no way reflects the attitude or spirit the rest of us have in this sport.
