Hey guys looking for a good all around trail sled 500 xc 0r sp much different in 2 speed or reliability?
XC700SP_Rider
I don't think there is a seperate model. I've only heard of XcSp's. For example; Xc500Sp. Unless there is a Xc500 without the Sp?

The 500s have always been an excellent engine for as long as I could remember.

I am wondering if there is much difference between the non valved and ves what is top speed of both and mileage model year 2003.

There's a small horsepower increase, and the low end is improved with the VES models. The SP models usually have a different shock package as well.

The only year I can think of when there was a difference was in '99. In that year, the standard XC had the taller, "trail rider" seat with the bigger gas tank and wraparound taillight. The XC SP had the lower, "racer" seat that had the sidepads and had a smaller gas tank. The colors were different, but other than the seat and gastank size they were the same sled. The difference in gastank size was the standard XC had a 12-gallon tank and the XC SP had a 10.

Usually there is a 10 hp gain with VES. Top speed for a 500 with VES should be right around 90-95 mph and the gas milage (although it will vary dependin upon jetting and how aggressive you are with the throttle) should be about 14 mpg.

The non 500 ves, and the 500 ves have very good low-end power. The 500 ves has more mid-range power, and alot more top-speed. I had a 99 and 00 500xc(non valved), a 2002 500xcsp, and now a 2006 500xcsp.
Both motors should be very reliable.

Indy 500 (Fuji motor)=85 hp
XC 500 =95 hp
XC 500 sp w/ves =105 hp

like everyone said the difference is about 10 hp and but sp has better shocks the shocks alose are worth finding an sp IMHO

VES alone won't give more HP. There must be more done to the motor to achieve higher max hp. VES will only increase low end to mid range hp.
