Dumb shit should have stopped and owned up to what he did. No longer a minor at the age of 18, just give himself a criminal record for the rest of his life! I only hope that the injuries don't leave the operator with any permanent disablilities.
what?trail?

Sorry for my english but "FUCK YOU PATRICK ROSA!!!!!"
Great idea T660man, and just tell me when you get a fund setup and I'll stop by a bank ASAP.

Can you set it up to accept Paypal? That way people could donate instantly instead of waiting for their "Round Tuit" to come.

The night the gentlemen was hit. I was riding in Kezar Falls Area 10 miles away. The fog was so thick in the open areas you could not see 10 feet in front of the sled. The news also stated the Limrick Airport where the man was hit was off limits to sleds this year.

Here's a story I found on WGME news.
Snowmobile Hit and Run Accident
Matt Lunt, Producer
Last update: 8 hours 59 minutes ago
The Maine Warden Service arrested Patrick Rosa, 18, of Limerick on Saturday night in relation to the snowmobile hit and run accident that happened in that town on Friday. Rosa was charged with aggravated assault, but the investigation is not ending with Rosa's arrest, according to Warden Service Investigator Phillip Dugas.
"We believe that there are others involved and the investigation is continuing," Dugas said.
Dugas said Rosa was driving a Ski-Doo Mach Z, a 1000cc machine, at an alleged high rate of speed.
"It's a big machine," Dugas said. "And powerful."
Rosa is being held at the York County Jail on $5000 cash bail.
42 year old Darren Smith of Limerick was walking his dog around 9:30pm Friday behind his home on the Limerick Air Field airstrip when he was struck by a snowmobile. He's now at Maine Medical Center in serious condition.
Earlier that day, Mr. Smith had filed a complaint with the York County Sheriff's Office because snowmobilers were using the airstrip -a piece of property that historically was available to snowmobilers but recently was posted as off limits to sledding. Investigator Dugas said it appears that Rosa was not one of the snowmobilers that Smith complained about earlier in the day.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Maine State Police at 1-800-482-0730.
Smith's dog, a 1-2 year old shepherd mix named Phoebe, was also injured in this incident and is being treated at the Animal Emergency Clinic in Portland but will need costly treatment, possibly including surgery. Contributions are being taken to help with the cost of Phoebe's care. Anyone who wants to donate to the Pet Assistance Fund at the Animal Emergency Clinic can call them at 878-3121.
No meant to be disrespectful, or to defend anyone, but it sure seems like there is more to this story.

This is a great idea T660man !! As I said, count me in for $10. I would give more but I have my own hit and run to deal with. Paypal works great. Please don't drop the ball here. Thank you for you effort. God bless you.

I'm sure the accident itself was unintentional .. the kid probably didn't go out with the goal to run someone over.
With that said .. the fuckin' asshole should sit his sorry ass in jail for a long time for leaving the poor guy out there and not helping him. I don't know how the guy was found or if he had to crawl to help with 2 busted legs but I can guarentee you he suffered through it. There's no excuse good enough for leaving someone out in the cold like he did.

Keep us updated T660 . . . this is something that I would definitely be interested in contributing to . . . incidents like this unfortunately give many sledders a proverbial black eye . . . kind of reminds me of the incident a year or so back when the sledder ran into the guy with the sled dogs and kept on riding.

Unacceptable
I feel bad for the guy to have to lay in the cold like that but I feel worse for his little girl to have to find him like that. She deserves some sort of recognition for keeping her head together and probably saving her Dad's life.
Now I
REALLY hope the punk rots in jail for a long time. Fucker should have just stopped and owned up to his mistake and helped the guy. Thats what pisses me off the most .. he just fuckin' left the guy out in the cold like that!! Takes a cold blodded asshole to do some shit like that to another person

Feel bad for the guy too. Hate to say it, but if he was already filing complaints about snowmobilers, this incident isn't going to help our cause with him any.....the kid just added fuel to his fire.

I was thinking the same thing Ed. Hope the guy didnt go out with the idea of stopping a 150 hp sled from rippin up the air strip. That said I'm in for $20, Hope you can set up Paypal.

The kid was out tooling around on his dad's $12,000 MachZ and ran home to see if someone was around to bail his ass out before the shit hit the fan. Too late.
Terrible story anyway you slice it.

ride hard
Jan 2 2008, 09:44 PM
just to let you guys know that the area (airport) where the person was hit is a known drag strip. it has been for 25+ years. everyone in the town of limerick knows this and any day of the week you can fine sleds dragging on it. It has always been open to sleds until this year I guess. First I have heard of it being off limits. It is still used by everyone in the area. It was a shitty night with low visabilty. shit happens. The mistake he made was leaving. he screwed up big time and now he will pay for it. I don't really know the kid but I do know that he is a experience rider and has been riding sleds for a long time and the sled he was on was his own, not his fathers. knowing the area, and have dragged there hundreds of times myself, I have to wonder what the guy was thinking and why he went walking his dog out on the air strip at 10 at night. there a 99% chance that at night sleds are going to be ripping down that run way. alot of people ride at night in the area. I am in no way supporting the kid, I just wanted to throw these facts out there. thats the last place I would of been walking my dog. I hope the guy recovers and has no lingering effects, but it's for sure will never be able to ride there again

I hate to add this in case it is not true but other sledders from another board have accused this guy of running out and trying to jump in front of sleds to get them to stop so he can figure out who they are. I am pretty sure 2 seperate people have said this has happned to them. Its also funny how many people thought this was an open trail for people to ride on. Also who own the airport?

carroll's don't own the air strip. and if they did they strip would be open to all sleds like it use to be. carroll's are part of the local club. I have also heard of this guy running out in front of sleds. just a bad situation and this 18 year old is going to be this years example just like someone is every year.

I agree... Reminds me of a fella up near Berlin a few years ago with his sled dogs. Got hit by some "punk" who then bolted. The guy had to crawl into his sleeping bag till someone found Him. I think he had broken at least one leg if memory serves me correctly. Leaving someone out there under those conditions, regardless of fault is lower than whale shit!!!! How could someone look in the mirror and like what they see? Just disgusting........ Karma is a bitch dude!!!!!!!!

This has nothing to do about whether or not he liked or disliked sleds, he was left to fend for himself by a cowardly, swarthy punk!!!!! What cause are you refering to? The "cause" should basically be being decent human beings and treating each other with respect.........

Obviously you misread my post. I didn't say his being hit by that idiot has anything to do with him liking or disliking sleds. I agree it was cowardly and callous to leave the scene. The "cause" I was referring to, for lack of a better word, refers to the fact that the victim had already logged complaints about snowmobilers, and the possibility that he could, because of this incident, become a high profile, and very vocal advocate AGAINST anything snowmobile related. Its incidents like this that become the rallying cry for anyone who has a bone to pick with certain people/activites.
