I am a landowner in Vermont but reside in New Hampshire. Our sleds are registered in New Hampshire and I have the required liability insurance. What do I need to ride legally in Vermont. I have heard different answers from people I have inquired with. Any help would be great. Thanks!

You need to purchase a non resident TMA. If the sled was registered in Vermont you would be able to purchase a Resident TMA ( You need to have the tax number to qualify)

Ouch....., registering the two sleds will be almost as much as the property tax bill. I wish bordering states could work something out to reduce the cost. I remember about 8 years ago Maine and New Hampshire had a deal if you were registered in one state you could ride in the other. This didnt last to long though.... I thought at one point New Hampshire and Vermont had a deal with a trail along the border but this also I think has been discontinued. Thanks for the info.

I do not have my TMA stickers and info at home, but you should be able to do non-resident property owner TMA. I don't do a lot of these so I don't remember the cost and all the rules. I think it is the same price as a resident. If you need more info I can find out tomorrow for you.

Thanks for the help since any money saved would be good. As far as NH goes, you would need to join a club which can be done at most registration stations (dealers/ shops). This is $25, and then the non-resident registration fee would be $63 and if not joining a club $ 93. If you are a resident it is $48 with club and $78 without. Thanks for the help.

A non resident TMA ( in my club ) right now is $150.00 (total) That includes the $15.00 club dues and the $5.00 county dues. Thats all you need if you have a sled regitered in N.H.

A non resident property owner right now is $110.00 ( that includes all the fees above)

Non resident snowmobile registration is $22.00

If you have a mailing address in Vermont you could probably qualify for a resident snowmobile registration at $15.00

Other club fees may be different, some are $5.00 cheaper some are $5.00 to $10.00 more.

Thanks for the info. I do not have a mailing address in Vermont since its only a camp. Hopefully I still qualify for non-resident property owner by showing a copy of the property tax bill. Saving $40 a sled would be great!

You can purchase a non resident landowner TMA "ONLY IF" the sled(s) are registered in Vermont.

You have to follow the requirements for New Hampshire and pay what ever thier "TMA" fees are... you need to contact the New Hampshire Snowmobiling Association... http://www.nhsa.com/ HOWEVER, there is a three mile provision in the Vermont State Statues that read:

(e) Special provisions for certain areas of operation; Massachusetts; New Hampshire; New York; Province of Quebec. A legally registered snowmobile, from any adjacent state or Province which provides the same reciprocity to Vermont, may enter this state by using a portion of the statewide snowmobile trail system, a public right-of-way open to snowmobiles, or private land that is posted open to snowmobiles, for a distance not to exceed three miles for the sole purpose of accessing the closest food, fuel, lodging and repair services, and, at a point three miles from the state line, trails shall be posted "VT TMA Required Beyond This Point". In Addison, Bennington and Rutland counties, licensed snowmobiles from reciprocating jurisdictions may operate from the New York border to Poultney village via corridor trail 4A (Delaware Hudson Rail Trail); from the New York border in Pawlet in the north to the New York border in the south in the town of Rupert (13 miles) along corridor trail 4; and from Lake Champlain at Benson Landing to the town of Benson via the local snowmobile trail.

Good Luck...Enjoy!
