$149.95 TV Ad special. Price returns to $169.99 SRP after 12/31/2007

Thats pretty cheap, almost worth getting to see how good it works up here, hmmm.

Edit: Looks like the yearly fee is $100 for the Sat. usage.

I suppose it might work well, but check out the coverage maps. Once again, we fall in the fringe. I don't know much abt sat phones, but I have a friend with one and it's coverage sucks. We spent a week out of Delta and anyone who tried to use the phone generally spent most of the time staring at the phone waiting for a sat connection only to experience a 30 second call................................The running joke was that he had unlimited minutes for his billing cycle. russian_roulette.gif

Yeah I did some more reading and they use the GlobalStar satellites (they are south of Alaska so coverage is not that great here), and they have a hard time getting through cloud cover (let alone any kind of tree canopy). If they ran on Iridium's system they would be worth it, they have complete global coverage and their sat phones can get through thick cloud cover and even some tree cover.
