Well, I know the snow is going to melt or at least I think it will but I thought I would put this post out there anyways. My son is a Marine and is home on leave until the 30th. He is my best riding buddy and is leaving for Iraq or Afghanistan. We were praying for some snow this week so we could ride together before he leaves.

The weather report looks like warm tomorrow then cold the rest of the week with some light snow here and there. We can't even think of riding until Wednesday due to the holidays. I will however take a day or two off on short notice if we can find some ridable snow say Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

We have a camp in Clearfield county so we can use that as a base to drive from if we need to go further north. So, to my request. Could some of you folks up north keep an eye on things for me and let me know if you have ridable snow on Thursday, Friday or Saturday? (12-27 Thru 12-29)

I have email alerts on this topic so if you post I will know it.. I haven't ridden any further north than S.B. Elliot so if you come up with snow let me know where I can pickup a trail map.

Thanks and Semper Fi!

Varmit!

Like Toy Rider said, Erie is looking to get some more snow this week, we already have a few inches that hasn't completely melted yet.
Shouldn't be to bad of a drive from Clearfield. I'll reply if we get enough rideable snow by Wednesday.

Tell your son Happy Holidays, and THANKS for everything he does for us civilians !

Thanks guys! Please do keep me posted! I am willing to drive up your way since its not that far at all from Clearfield. I am finding this liberty a little tougher than the last two since he is being deployed. Damn!

Don't we need a permit for the ANF? If I do can we buy one over the counter?
ZRcrosscountry
no you dont need a permit to ride snowmobiles in the anf, you need a permit only for ATV's on there atv trails.

Hey ZR SEMPER FI! Who is your son with? Mine is with the 1/2 out of Lejeune! From your post he must be on a Taxi wink.gif That's what my son calls a Navy ship.

Everyone KEEP ME POSTED ON THE SNOW CONDITIONS!

Dvarmit,

I can only imagine what your feeling right now.

As far as I know, you only need PA Reg. It's not like Old Forge where you need NY reg. and a Old Froge trail pass.
I've also have never ridden the ANF loop on a sled ... plan to this year. The ANF is east of me (maybe an hour ?)
I'm reporting from Waterford, PA, in Erie County (far northwest).

However, so far the weather is not looking to great. Currently 45 deg. and Rain. Rained all night. Damn weather men said it was gonna drop back to freezing by this morning, then all this rain were getting would have all been snow. We pretty much lost all the base we had. We need a pretty good storm here to be able to ride by the weekend. I'll report back in a day or two.

According to weather.com :
Mon - 70% chance snow
Tue - 30% chance snow
Wed - nada
Thur - nada
Fri - 30% chance rain/snow

I have resigned myself to the fact that we are not going to be able to ride and I think he has as well. I thought that I would put this out there just in case the weathermen were wrong which I hope they are but I doubt it..

I was really hoping for snow for you and the marine (and myself too). But, I don't think either of us will be riding this week.

I saw that and it looks like we will not be riding, at least around the Laurel Highlands, for two at least two weeks. This one was pretty hard to swallow. Chris looked at me the other day and told me that there is always next year.. Talk about a lump in your throat. DAMN!
He found out his deployment was moved to July and since the Marines only do seven month tours that puts him home around the end of January 2009. Moral of the story, if you have sons or daughters enjoy all the time you can now because some day things will change. I know this is the way it is supposed to be but that doesn't mean I always have to like it.

I do appreciate all the offers in the event we did have snow! Thanks guys! thumbsup.png
