Just checked out their website.... I know I am going to catch hell for this but here it goes.. They say they are not grooming Christmas Eve or Day as well as New Years Eve and day. Is this new? Have they always done this? I know they work hard and all, but those are prime tourist days and I think the grooming should be on going... Like I said, gonna catch hell, but it is a seasonal sport that only has so many prime days. There will be alot of vacationers that week and it's a chance for all to showcase. I bet other clubs see this logic and will be out grooming.. Just an opinion. Fire away. flamethrowingsmiley.gif

Do you really think those times are gonna be crowded with people using the trails??? Why don't you take a course and do the grooming yourself, I'm sure they would love the help. What would you do if no one groomed the trails ever? Would you give up riding or just ride like most people did before trail grooming started. Most groomer operators work for free so to ask them to work on those nights takes allot of balls. Anyway that's just my opinion. Unless you walk a mile in someone else's shoes you don't know what their world is like. popc1.gif popc1.gif r_c.gif

Well Ct_Skidoo and I will be out riding, but on previous years when I have been up the days just before Christmas there has been NOBODY out riding. I don't think the 2 of us will tear things up too bad.
ct_skidoo2
I wouldn't worry to much about xmas eve and xmas day at very least. Typically there are not a lot of riders on those days (and by the way a great time to be out riding becuase of such grinning-smiley-023.gif ).

I think things will be fine and gives the groomer operators some time with thier families and friends. PRR will do thier best before and after each holiday.

I'd go out and groom the trails in Freedom if it wasn't for that Family thing I got goin!! xmas-smiley3.gif xmas-smiley3.gif

I knew I would catch flack and yes, I do realize people need to be with family. I believe the Ridge Runners pay their groomers am I correct Mark? And no, I don't like riding on ungroomed trails. I like flat and smooth trails. If I had to be bounced around all day, I wouldn't ride. I am just thinking on a business level.... Just think the area would want perfect trails...... It gets people to book their vacations for the next year quicker and this helps out the North Country. I am not being selfish, just trying to think of the greater good... And yes, I have worked many a holiday so it's nothing new to me. Toolman... Heres a reality check back at you. Folks up ther depend on people like yourself to pump $$$ into the local economy. This isn't the Woburn area where many opportunities abound. So, if the trails were horrible and ungroomed you would never return also. So don't be a hypocrite.

For the record I made my statement to open your eyes to my view not start a pissing contest. I am far from a hypocrite. I think the public needs to be educated to the fact that the trails aren't always perfect, and paying for a registration does not guarrantee it. Every winter someone bitches about a trail or trails and has no idea what goes into them. I have logged in many hours for my club and also used my own equipment to help so I do know first hand what it takes. I also happen it enjoy working in the woods. although replacing steel tracks on the groomer at 6 degrees isn't high on that list. Please understand these guys and girls work hard all year and they aren't always paid. I have read many statements from locals in the great north that tell us they would get along just fine with out us flatlanders up there. I spend allot of time in Freedom and what I like best is we can just hang out and party without all the hustle and bustle of the flatlands. My neighbors spend lots of family time together thats what's important in life, Friends and family, so given the choice don't work the holidays life is too short. Anyway we can agree or disagree no matter this is America, so enjoy your ride and have a great Christmas. beer_cheers.gif

I think the groomers deserve some time off, especaly that holiday. The only people out on the trails are probably younge guys without relatives. It must be a good time almost alone out there, even if they arn't perfectly groomed.

Apparently you haven't been to Pittsburg anywhere close to the weekends. every weekend by noon time the trails turn to whoops and snow pushed out of the corners. Even Pittsburg cant have perfect trails all the time except for the week and they get the most support money of all the clubs in the state and people still go back. Maybe its because of the food.

....why should a guy HAVE to leave his family on Christmas just so we can have smooth trails? Don't seem right to me

The thing is this....the club is giving everyone advance notice that they won't be grooming on those four days. Fine by me.

What is this world coming to? Do we expect corduroy conditions every morning? Come on...... be real. This is not a ski area just yet. This is the freakin wilderness for gods sake. The amount of money that sledders give to the clubs (what a measely $30) pales in comparison to what skiers spend a day to ski. So the "we're spending tons of money" excuse is not going to float with me. Perhaps you would be better off going skiing then sledding over Christmas week if you demand daily grooming. You know what.....some of the areas even groom a trail in the afternoon for those who love to ski fresh groomed trails. Even better.....donate a couple thousand bucks to the club and I'm sure someone will groom right to your doorstep. yelrotflmao.gif

My guess is that conditions will be fine anyways. Just avoid the typically bumped up areas. You may have to venture out away from the crowds but you'll be OK. beer_cheers.gif

I've got an easy solution. Lets pretend like it was last winter. We wouldnt even be having this discussion. I didnt see any grooming going last year when the trails were brown and no white stuff had been laid down yet...

Lets appreciate the following: mother nature has blessed us with a lot of early season white gold to enjoy, the volunteer (or paid groomers - and i'm sure its not enough to make 'em rich) have every right to enjoy a special day or two with their families (the trails will survive without 'em), and its the holiday season and we're all happy to have wonderful families and a great snowmobiling community that we all share in, volunteer when we can, and apprecaite even more those that contribute a disproportianate amount of their time.

happy holidays everyone, and i'll see you on the trails - whether theyre groomed (which 99% of the time they are), or ungroomed....its fun either way!

Ok here goes

The Pittsburg Ridge Runners are doing nothing different than we normally do at Christmas and New Years, this is standard practice with us this time of year. The trails will be worked and ready before hand, and there are normally very few sleds out at Christmas.
The only thing different we are doing this year is letting everyone know ahead of time that this was happening. Please understand we all need time off for the holidays to be with family, We were trying to do the right thing and inform the public, but from past years I guess we just found out what you don't know won't hurt you.
There is a possibility we will have a machine or two running during the early morning to part way through the day Christmas eve to touch things up as we sometimes do.
The trails will be great, and minimal riders. Come on up and have some fun don't let the post pardom sledding get to you, get it out of your system.

I work most holidays because my job requires it. If I had a choice, Id be home with my family. The groomer operators do enough. Its ok with me if they take Christmas off.

Hey Bucky i see your point, riding is very limited Christmas is a tough weekends for guys who have families to be out working. New years on the other hand is a big riding weekend and i am going away upto the Forks in Maine that weekend and i know for sure we will be out grooming that weekend of new years to keep the trails up. These guys dont get it. If your on vacation and you ride New years weekend and the trails suck you probably wont come back next year. I would think the local business owners would pay a guy to groom on popular weekends such as new years just keep up a good reputation up for future business summer_sucks.gif

Sucks when ya get grouped with the Massholes does'nt it! it's not that I totaly disagree with what your saying. But look at the bright side last New Years eve I sat on my deck and got falling down drunk watching it rain. The last 10 years my family and I have spent the entire school Christmas vaction week up to our camp and decided to stay home this year. Partly because my parents are getting older and mother nature has'nt been coperating the last few years, now we'er getting dumped on and I did'nt take anytime off from work mother_nature.gif

Boy - talk about "Much ado about Nothing"...
There is hardly anybody up here riding today. Christmas Eve and Christmas day the place will be deserted. I headed out this afternoon at about 3:30. That's 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon. The riding was great. Deer Mtn was a tad bumpy - but when isn't it?

No grooming on Christmas & Christmas eve - No worries - the riding will be first class (for the few of us fortunate enough to be here to take advantage of it)

The Ridge Runners have done a great job as usual - it's like mid February up here. Awesome conditions! smiley-faces7.gif

What are they doing with all this white shit on the ground, sounds like fun, NOT. Where have you been I was getting ready to send up a flare, I did'nt realize selling that Polaris would put you into such a state of depression.
