Me and some buddies were up in Old Forge this weekend and my friends F7 Sno Pro got ripped off behind Slickers. He only had 500 miles on it. He has insurance but is pissed off to no end. So he is now in the market for an 04 F7 Sno Pro either Red or black if anyone knows a dealer or individual in the upstate NY area thats selling one please let me know. :banghead:

We will all be locking up our sleds from now on. Is it true that the only thing you need to do to start an F7 is unplug the 2 terminals at the ignition??

Yup - just unplug the wires behind the key and it starts right up. Absolutely ridiculous! :banghead:

And there might aswell be a big neon sign saying Im right here. It's not even like you have to move around anything to get to the wires uzi.gif

98 Thundercat - Post some details on the stolen sled, I don't know if they would be brave enough to ride it up there, but I spend most of my riding time in Old Forge and would be on the lookout for you. We are headed there next weekend.

Also, there are ways to setup the ignition so you can't start it. Could you tell if they road it away or picked it up and threw it on a truck?

His was stolen on Valentines day also. I was loading the family up in the truck to take them out for dinner and my buddy Jeff came riding up and told us that our other buddy Darin just got his Sled ripped off. S o I drove over to slickers and there he was crying and punching the street sign. He calmed down a little but he is a big dude so I didnt get in his way I figured I would just let him cool down a little before I got to close. anyway its unbelievable that an $8500.00 sled has absoulutley no theft protection from the factory veryangry.gif

uzi.gif them censored.gif theves.
why dosent he just wait for a 05??
winter is over in a month.
just borrow or rent one.
just a thought.

They rode it away for sure we could see the tracks. It is an 04 F7 Black with yellow screens. You might come across a few of those. but if you see one driving without a key then knock him off the sled and kick his ass then ask questions

Tell your buddy to contact Herba Motor Co. in Amsterdam, NY. They have got a few F7's in stock check em out good deals too. Just don't use their service department.

Sucks to hear about it though, if mine was stolen after all the trouble it has given me I would be happy to take the insurance check and wait till 05 snowcheck.

If he is serious about buying another sled, I may be able to help. My friend and I both bought 04 red sno-pro f-7's. 1" track 102 studs. He has about 300 miles on his sled and wants to sell it. He is located in Rotterdam NY. The sled is paid off in full and is like new. :div20:

Please PM me with your buddies info on that Sno Pro

sorry to hear about the stolen sled. i hope the thief is caught by your buddy and beat to within a inch of his life.

I'm never riding in NY again. Not until they get their stolen sled problem fixed...LOL
J/k, but I had to.

98 thundercat. I was standing next to Darin when he walked in and said his sled was just stolen. He told me he was from Rochester and had bought it at Nelson's which is just down the street from me. I hope they catch the persons that did this. There is an 04 F7 EFI in the Rochester paper want adds that he may be able to deal on. I just wish there was something I could have done to help him get it back. It happened to me 20 years ago. I don't drive my F7 after dark for fear of it being stolen when its out of sight. We all need to install an ignition interlock to prevent this from happening to all firecat owners.Tell Darin I wish him good luck. Fast Ed

IF the key was take out and the ignition was off pulling the 2 wires doesn't work. The ignition has to be on the "on" position unless there was something wrong. When I got my sled new you could start it with no key- there was a broken wire. Everyone should check their switches. sorry to hear about losing a new cat ...that sucks
FastEd
firebabe. Taking the 2 wires off your ignition switch with the key in or out will start your sled. I've already done it on mine. Try it on yours.

wow...I can't beleive the sled was stolen out of slickers of all places.
I was there on saturday also from around 5 til 6 eating dinner. I didn't see any commotion then. What time did this happpen? I own a place in Old Forge and ride there all the time....will be on the lookout but as someone else said it is highly unlikely that they will show their ugly mug in that area any time soon.
I had driven my truck there and wasn't on a sled at the time but when I do go there on sled, I usually try to park right near the windows so I can keep an eye on it from the inside.
Sorry to hear...that really bites

98 Thundercat, I sent you a PM with the info

thanks

go out and give it a try, key or no key if you unplug the wires it fires right up, i know i tried it and it runs just fine dunno.gif AC and other sled companies need to seriouly look into this, DSS (i think thats what its called) is a great idea but i read on the rev forum that you can swap the DSS box out for a diffrent one in no time. but that is netter than nuthing

Let's face it, all you need to do is remove either 1 of the wires. All the switch does is ground the ignition. If you break that connection anywhere it will start. I've already been thinking about a steel housing around the back of the console. Maybe Cat should step up and make one for us.

uzi.gif That sled will probably be parted out or sold somewhere else if they were pro's. Keep an eye out for it on tug hill too.

IMO I would wait and order an 05'.

It still sucks.

how did he make out on insurance? What happens if the sled shows up later not damaged, does the insurance company bend you over. If it is the end of the season, I hope it gets stolen, than I can snowcheck an 05.

some guys up here have a way around DSS don't know how but they stole 2 of them from the local dealer........

i think they should make small GPS pucks affordable, i would certainly buy one, then i could track my sled from my house.

then if they do steal it i'll follow them and beat the living piss out of them uzi.gif ......
ZEE R 2K
i was there on the 19th and was parked out back and really couldn't see my sled from inside really didn't give it a second thought........i'll be thinking differently now........ sorry about your sled.......anything to distinquish it from others? uzi.gif

I know it is a pain in the ass but I guess it is time for everyone to start cabling their sleds either through the track and suspension or to your buddy's sled next to it. I know it doesn't stop someone from picking it up into a pickup but at least it stops them :cn: from driving off with it. A tether hooked up that is not visible would work also. Usually they don't have the time to figure out why they don't start.
REDF7rawrrr
That is absolute bullshit, like you said, $8,500.00 sled, and ANYone can take it, ANYone, its about time to give DOO props for there DESS, no one can take it, OMG I cant even imagine, being out riding having a good time and then my sled is gone!, the first thing I would do is get my groupd of buddies, and do some looking, it is kind of pointless, but if I did find the sled, and it was parked the first thing I would do, is just sit there with it, with the key , just sit and wait, until the clepto came back, and I would be the first to deliver the beating, I would get real interesting with my proceedure, he deserves it, I suggest that some company produce a foldable track lock system so even if they tried to move it, or even if it was to get started, it couldnt, the track wouldnt move, that wouldnt be too much to ask of a company or at leaste come up with a security system, instead of Arctic Cat spending months on a JOKER graphics package instead of security, now that is a JOKE!, uzi.gif
Roost 'Er
dess can be stolen 2 sleds up here were stolen with dess they got some program or decoding thing but they got around it and stole 2 sleds, yes we really need some security like a hood lock or ??? chains do the trick for now i guess

Nelson's... I know where that is. I drive by it every day.

I won't do business with them anymore. I've never dealt with a dealer who was so rude in my life! They act like I'm putting them out every time I go in there to buy something. Sheesh!!! I've been in there a few times to ask questions, and order parts. Ordered a thumb warmer from them a few weeks ago. It took them almost 2 weeks to get the part in, and I had to call them twice to remind them to order it.

It's out of my way, but I'll take my business to O'Meals in Palmyra. It's a small mom-and-pop joint, but at least they're glad to see you when you walk in the door. Had them service my ZL last winter. I know they spent more than 2 hours working on it (no spark - ended up being a flywheel) but in the end, they only charged me for an hour of labor. They're also happy to BS with you, and help you solve a problem. Never got that at Nelson's...

Sucks about this guy's stolen sled. Makes you wonder how low-lifes like than can sleep at night. I guess a silent alarm and a handgun are about the only things that can guarantee you'll find your sled where you left it. I have seen A LOT of sleds parted out on eBay. Some say they were wrecked, others give no explanation of why. It might help to mark some big-ticket parts (cowling, skis, clutches, etc.) on our sleds. Then, if we see parts offered on eBay that may be from a stolen sled, just ask for a pic of where you marked the part. Just an idea… I would keep an eye on eBay though – you may see some of your sled turn up there. If that ever happens, sellers do have addresses… uzi.gif

Sorry to hear about the stolen sleds! I just got a new sled and I am planning on using a throttle lock AND large aircraft cable lock all the time. Hopefully that will work!

Sure it's an old thread but is there any update? Did the guy find a sled for his insurance company to buy? Did he find the guy who stole it?... I'm in suspense.
