I am now thinking about keeping a single track on my crossfire for both MN, WI, UP riding as well as 2 trips a year to wyoming. I have BMP do all my work for me as I don't have time to wrench on a sled and I really don't want swap out 4 times a winter. What is the max lug track / studs I can get away with in the icy Midwest trails but still have fun in the mountains. I was thinking a 1.5 ripsaw with 1.625 studs. Can I get away with more? What track do you recommend that won't tear lugs in low snow? I am also planning on rail ext to 144"

If your not in to high speed runs, go with the 2" track. I have been running it on my 06 CF 7 and I love it. Most of my riding is MN and MI and WY. Perfect for off trail riding in MI. Everyone who has riden my sled loves the track. I will put a 2" on my next sled again.

Saw this track on tracksusa.com. It is new this year so I'm sure not many people have tried it but it looks perfect for your kind of riding. We might try one out on my dads crossfire later this year.
TracksUSA Backcountry trackEdit: if you go to there home page and scroll down towards the bottom they are currently running a special for a Backcountry track and rail extentions.

If I was in the situation I'd get the Intense. Basically a cut down Challenger. The 1.5 ripsaw would be more for trail and those as they aren't as good in the pow.

You know I was debating this very thought when I bought my M but after riding it a little I really think that I might keep the 2.25 challenger on it for around here. I had a .85 with 144 studs in my ZR and thought that there is no way I would ride without them again but this thing hooks up pretty damn good. I keep right up with my buddies pro xr 800 for the most part.

I ran the intense on my ZR800efi 136 for 3 seasons and loved it in the UP rarely did i think i needed more. With the CF700 being 30+ lbs lighter than the zr i think it would be even better. It does give up a bit of handling on trail over a ripsaw , but thats expected

Drop on a cheep take off attack20 trim it down and put in some screw in studs. Drop on a 141 with 3 pitch drivers and 8" wheel kit. It works out very nice. Drop on a set of scratchers for the trail running and life is good. YOu can change out the sliders easy with the three pitch window if you need.
I run only one scratcher one ride to just keep the sled cool. It work great for that but the other slider melted down on my and needed to swap it out in a parking lot. Just spin the bolt out the front and tug her out the back with a thermos of hot water on her. New one in good to go.

i run the 1.5" intense on my modded 800 and its great... shoots out of the hole.. and when i get in the powder it picks the ski's up so for where i ride its the perfect track... a buddy has a 2" and its nice in the powder but on trails/hard pack its shit

Has anyone tried out that Free Ride 1.5"? It looks like it might be a really good design for a 50/50 riding mix. I also like the design of the Crossover, but Tracks USA only has it in 144. Is it available elsewhere in a 136?
I might even go with a Predator. I had a Predator on my last sled, and it was good on trails, but much better off-trail than this Ripsaw.

No it will not fit. If you get a second take a peek under the tunnel and see the water tubes that run the water to the rear cooler run in the very inside corner of the tunnel. The wider track will hit these coolers and there is less than .5" in there now with the 15" track.
Don.
Bopper, What makes the 2" shit on the trails? I am guessing your talking about the attack20. Have him flipping it to hill climb and she will rip your arms off.

My buddy runs a 2 inch paddle in MN, he loves it. Hasn't really lost any lugs either... I think you would be better off to go a little over kill in MN than to short yourself in the mountains...
