I've got about 175 miles on my TNT (absolutely love all of them) but am only averaging around 10 to 12 mpg. I know this should rise as the engine breaks in, but how long should I expect this process to take?
mangion1
My first tank with TNT is got around 13 mpg. I've heard from sources mileage will get better with "chip burn in" but have'nt a clue when that will be. I would think optimum mileage will be reached by 300 miles. People are saying 17-19 mpg!!
ed#215
It will improve with miles at 400miles we are seeing 16/17mpg running hard pack trails about 60ish mph. Also this yr the primary seemed to be very tightly machined and will loosen up around the 250-300 mark, check your belt wear and sheaves for excess burnt rubber after the first good ride. Another common issue with Rotaxs and this motor in paticular is the oil pump is set pig rich from the factory, a good adjustement after a few hundred miles will help. Another note would be your track tension ours was way to tight from dealer prep, this will kill mpg, mph, belts and sliders.

Got about 520miles on my TNT, last trip got about 17mpg

I get 17 to 18 with mine. Where is the oil pump adjustment on these things?
DooinVT
I average 16.5 mpg locally (tight twisties,and/or hammering moguls) this past weekend (up north) (more open /straighter/FASTER trails) got 18.5 mpg !! I'm impressed !! Oil consumption is good used about 2 qts in roughly 360-70mi.

Let me get this straight as I seem to be missing something here. You are talking an average of roughly 15.5 mpg on the 08 TNT which has a 10.6 gallon tank. That would mean you are getting roughly 164.3 miles per tank. I have an 08 TNT and currently have 280 miles on it. I top it off and am only able to put 80 miles on it before the fuel light comes on. I have not run it dry to see exactly what I can get, but could there be an issue with my fuel gauge or should the mpg nearly double after full break-in?
geez150
it seems the more I read about the new doo's and polaris's some people are getting sleds that run great on performance and mpg and some are getting the worst thing a $10,000 loan could buy them. That or those people getting huge mpg don't ride as hard as they think they do or they right hard packed smooth trails all the time. There is no way your mpg will double if you are getting 10mpg I would say that is about right my 06 Polaris XC 500 with a 105HP motor gets 10-11 no matter how hard I ride or what the trails are like.

The fuel gauge is very inaccurate, on my 800R the low fuel light came on at 60 miles, filled up and only put half a tank in, wtf.gif On Good Friday's 200 mile ride, left the house with a full tank, topped it up at the local gas bar this time only put 2 gallons in, then decided to top up at the half way mark, again put in half a tank and the fuel gauge was still reading full!!! Sitting in the garage it's indicating 3/4 full, and that should be accurate, but who knows, I could go out and fire it up and it could read full, then 4 miles down the trail the low fuel light might come on...I always reset my odometer at each fill up, as soon as I approach the 100 mile mark, I'll look for gas, but even then I'm only putting in 8-9 galllons, so it's far from being completely empty.
skroll116
I have to admit even when I top it off my gas guage easily reads two bars low. I reset each fill up and have never put more then 7 gallons even when reading empty and the light is on. One of these days I will have to take a gas can with me and run it till it dies and see exactly what I get.

Thanks all
Trail Ryder
My TNT drank up the first tank rather quickly, but after break-in, the sled has delivered a consistant average of 17 MPG.

My fuel gauge worked great for about the first 1,500 miles and now, reads empty (with the light on) at half a tank. The dealer tells me that there is a warranty "re-flash" coming to correct this.

Also, I find that if I burp my tank by compressing the rear suspenstion and the lifting the back end, I can fit almost another 3/4 of gallon in.
skroll116
I will try the "burp" technique as I hope to have at least one more weekend of riding in.

Fill it up, then compress the rear suspension SLOWLY (you don't want to spill any fuel) and lift the rear end all the way up, and then add more fuel.

Yeah you'll be shocked on much more gas you can put in after you burp it. I do it everytime I fill up.

Exactly what my 800R does. I ALWAYS reset the odometer to be sure that i'm totally aware of the miles i've run and start looking for gas...My buddies 800R does the same also!!!!

hard pack trails,2200 miles,last tank 15 mpg,gas gauge sucks,use odometer,love this sled
ditchpickle
12-13 mpg with a little over a 1,100 miles average speed 39.8 mph. gas low lite comes on can only add 7 gallons so I start looking for gas at 100 miles. have 30 miles to find station. sweet sled
DooinVT
If anyone is getting under 14-15mpg w/ this sled, something's wrong w/ it !!

I have over 2200mi. on mine now,and am still getting great fuel milage. When I abuse my sled,I still get over or right at 15mpg. When I cruise up north (usually 60-70 mph for extended periods) I get over 18mpg. most of the time I am right about 16mpg.

I ran 120 mi. on a tank (was showing 2 bars on gauge w/ low fuel light flickering occasionally) filled up,and was only able to squeeze 7.3 gal into it .(16.43 mpg) so yeah you probably can go 150 mi.+ before being empty.

Like I said,if your getting less than 15,you must be riding VERY slow on a VERY warm day...........or like I said, somethng else is amiss w/your sled.

I see you are all comparing TNT's gas mileage but are they all the same engine?

Yes,the 2008 TNT has the "500 SS" engine, wich is the PRE-H.O. 600cc carbed engine. Some do run better than others, but one would hope they would ALL be about the same.
