is there a place that sells a water pump rebuild kit? or do you just have to buy the parts from arctic cat? ive got the motor out of my zrt600 and took the cover off of my water pump and the impeller has all kinds of play in it. you can also tell where it has rubbed on the cover. do i just need the new seals or is there more to it?

Don't have my manual ('96) in front of me now but if the impeller is hitting anywhere you likely have a bearing failure of some type or the means of retaining the impeller is out of whack. More than seals is likely needed.

http://www.alpha-sports.com/ I use them all the time, look up your sled, find the parts pay and wait. For the most time I do not wait before they are on my door step. GOOD LUCK

thanks for the replies. i found that i need both seals on the water pump side, and probably the retainer on the oil pump side.

I just went through the same thing with my 600. Most likely the bushing that is pressed into the case is wore out, on the water pump side of the shaft. I ordered a new shaft, bushing, shim, seals, and impeller. My water pump housing had wear on it, like you mentioned. I did not replace my housing. I ordered all my parts through Babbits, they are in Michigan. I got all the parts for $99.

yeah, the shaft had a lot of slop right there in that bushing on the water pump side. but it also seems to have some play on the oil pump side. i did look at babbits, thats probably where i'll order the stuff from. i couldnt seem to find the part number for the shaft itself? i see it in the picture, but no number?

you can change that bushing form the oil pump side, you have to yank the engine to do it, i would also suggest you order part # 15 from the diagram on the oil pump, bottom injector that lubes the shaftyou should change this injector as well or your going to lose the new shaft also the shaft went bad first then the water pump seals

change what bushing from the oil pump side? i got the bushing on the water pump side out already. also, are you saying to change the check valve on the bottom?
xdanthemanx
there is a bushing inside the case and it is put in from the water pump side, if you do not replace youl be right back to doing it again soon, its actually a bronze bushing and yes i am saying to replace the bottom injector that oils the shaft
i will bet if you test it it will be froze or slightly plugged also make sure there isnt too much slop in the aluminum carrier on the oil pump side as this IS your support for the other end of the shaft
