Yesterday I did more miles in Weare than I did locally all year last year. Forecast is staying cold and even a little more snow. smiley-faces7.gif

I'm sure every area is the same- you can't do any real distance riding unless you can cross water. In Weare you can't ride West without crossing Horace lake, and north unless you cross Drew lake and Stumpfield.

So the question is- did anyone cross any ice on opening weekend?

The only people who crossed the lake are unable to respond this morning! grinning-smiley-023.gif

Personally I'd give it another couple of weeks.

I talked with some people this morning that crossed Back Lake yesterday and told me they had to change their underwear once they reached the other side. Apparently there were spots that had a good 4 or 5 inches and some spots only a couple and with drifting snow and the "hammer down" they just bounced through a few spots! They made it but looking back at their tracks showed lots of slush and water! I too would recommend a couple more weeks before doing much "pissing in the eye I of the devil" ! w-flag.gif

Yikes, and that is Pittsburg, let alone Central NH... forget it, it's in town riding only for at least a few weeks.

looking at this weeks weather, it looks like single dig every night!! that should help.

cant wait for newyears

Drove over to Back Lake on Saturday and saw a few tracks on it but there is some serious slush. Would not go on any of the lakes for a while. This will be the year of slushy lakes

yah, crossed a whole bunch of ice this morning on 28 south to Manch Vegas.
I also changed my shorts when i got to work.

I was out in weare yesterday as well and agree that the snow cover was awesome considering. I'd never been on the trails here previously but was pleasantly surprised. I crossed daniels lake a few times, but didn't stop for very long. Hit a couple slushy spots and decided that I didn't want to go swimming so I just left. I helped pull out a couple of yamahas on the trailside yesterday, but aside from that never saw another soul all day. We defo need to get together for a night ride Jethro... If you see an all yellow rev, be sure to flag me down!

Hey Guys,

I also crossed Daniels lake a few times. My buddy lives at the corner of twin bridge and newman wilson rd. They need to groom and it will be good around there. I only found alittle slush over by the dam, and did not go slow enough to worry about it!! We went to clough and did a couple of laps?? Going over mount williams?????? was pretty rough. Go left after cold springs, dont even think about going straight right at the fork, 4 or 5 open water bars, almost did the dismount off my apex gt. f...ed my leg up a little. I will be back for a night ride probably thursday or so. I would assume that the river on the other side of clough is real questionable as well as the river under 89 on the way to contoocook. too far to swim:) We usually ride all yamahas but we do have a buddy withand edge xc black and yellow, other wise we will be a red viper, a blue rx-1, my black apex gt, sx 600, srx 700 and occaisionally a silver rage. no identifiing marking on our sleds, My gt has a blue lit up skull that I have plugged into the accesory port, and I wear a motocross helmet with a skeletor skin on it of a cat green snowcross helmet:)

Been on the small ponds around my house in Raymond. About 4-5 inches. I do not sit too long and avoid stopping close to another snowmobile.

4-5 years ago I took my wife to Raymond on the rail bed in Feb and she wouldn't stop on Onway then can't imagine what she would thingk now.

I think it's a matter of time before we see our first casualty on a lake. thin ice, fresh snow on top to stop the freezing process is a recipe for disaster. I rode 1st Conn 2 years ago at new years but don't think I will be doing that this year.

i rode across my lake in rindge last night, multiple runs back and forth, no slush or anything! seems good to go for the year!!

Yes we do!

If you see this sled, come and say hi:

I wear a red HJC helmet and red jacket. My sled often has blue saddlebags also, and is getting a new blue shorty windshield soon.

any Weare-billy's want to do a thursday night ride??? I was thinking about jumping out for a little bit.
groaty
a couple buddies were riding on the piscatasquog(sp) in manchester saturday. over by the kelly street bridge. they said there was about 15 sleds ripping around all day with no issues.

No one had crossed Little Diamond this weekend, a good indication. I pulled up to it, then swung around. No way am I that guy that makes the first tracks, my SRX is too heavy for that nonsense.

Just took a cruise down towards Pittsburg Village and noticed these tracks just below Lopstick on the closed section of 139 where someone tried to cheat the shoreline by goin a little ways out on First Connecticut Lake. These tracks showed water and slush and very little ice. w-flag.gif

Don't push it, we will have good ice but not for a while with all this snow on top the cold air can't make ice very quickly! don't take a chance, our rescue people have better things to do than go swimming on days like today in 6 degree weather. hyper.gif

There was about 8" of ice on Horace lake Saturday and there were quite a few sleds on it midweek.

I was up on Back Lake this weekend and I believe all the tracks seen were my girlfriend's and my own. I only saw 2 yamahas make one pass out and back in. We made a couple of laps around the lake with no problems, even stopped for a minute like 2 dopes!! frantics.gif Minus the deep snow and sudden clear spots the riding on the lake was ok, but I wouldnt go near any of the other lakes just yet. Just the site of all the slush being kicked up makes me kinda "eh" even though I know its frozen beneath it!!!

Our Abundace of snowfall this early will be the Downfall of our Ice for the forseeable future . cold.gif
