Poster at Recreation Supply says Poker Rally in Wakaw Saturday, Dec. 29th.

any one know what time it starts at?

I just got back from the Wakaw Ralley. I would have posted yesterday evening but number three daughter and friend hogged the comp last night. Anyway there were quite a few people out. The weather was fine at -9 but the overcast made it rough at times to make out the trail clearly. I went off trail exploring and promptly dropped off a cut bank. I tried to spin the track to bring the nose up but I still hit hard on the skis first. Banged my knee up some on the reverse handle. Ouch. Sled was ok. There is alot more snow north east of Saskatoon. At least a foot in the fields. The sledders took over the parking lot at the Esso station at the crossroads. It was a big rally. Those Yamaha Phazers look and sound pretty cool. When they first came out I thought the lunar lander just gave birth to kids with tracks. Those weird looks are starting to look good to me. It was a long haul through trees hills and field. Some very nice sledding country around there. The trail was sparsley marked and when it was the posts were just red paint on a stake. placed quite a distance away. People were getting lost. Last year the people at Abredeen had a very well marked trail with large flags within sight of one another. A customer at Rec Supply told to try out St Julians (?) next week end. He says its east of Rosthern somewhere. I'll find out more.

We also attended the Wakaw Rally. There was around 250 snowmobiles. First prize was $747.50. Trail was great but the second half was very poorly marked. We got severely lost after the second broken down Ski-doo, somewhere between Crystal Springs and St. Benedict. Never did make it to St. Ben. Ended somewhere southeast of Cudworth. One of the four sleds in our group ran out of gas. Another ran out 20 feet from the pumps at the Crossroads. Made well over 100 miles on what was supposed to be a 65 mile run. We finally got back to the Rec Centre at 7:00 P.M. Someone was at the Crossroads filling Jerry Cans for 13 other sleds lost somewhere on the trail. The run was great, like mentioned aboved. Lots of different terrain, lots of snow, just very poorly marked, especially for an overcast day. But it's all about the journey, right?

Asquith Rally, Sat. Jan. 5 Legion Hall. 25 miles west of Saskatoon on Highway 14. $20 includes pancake breakfast, coffee hot dogs halfway and a chili supper.Cash prizes. Ghost hands $5. Coop gas bar in town with a cafe on the highway. This is a good ride. Mix of field, forest, rolling hills and a beautiful river valley. Asquith people have been hosting this rally for sometime so they mark their trail pretty good. There's not an abundance of snow around Saskatoon it's true but the stubble and bush have kept riding half decent. The Eagle Creek area is quite nice. I ride this one every year. The week end looks warm (+2) so leave your suit at home and wear your speedos and sandals but don't forget the helmet. I'll be riding a 98 AC Cougar if you want to say hi. grin.png

when does the rally in asquith start?
Bumpalong
Brunch 10-1130 (they put on a good spread) sleds out between 11 and 3. This is what they did before so I assume they will do it up this way again. I'll double check the poster down at the store. If you're a real long distance type you could go Saskatoon-Eagle Creek return at about 90 miles. My aging carcass hits fifty five in four days so I just bump along at trail speeds. It's only fanaticism and ibuprofin that keeps me going after 60 miles. I ride from my acreage near Grandora. Here's a corny joke: The grandkids went to visit grandpa. They swung by the ranch first to pick up his favorite saddle. When they got to the old folks home they went to the kitchen and cinched his saddle to a stove. They then lifted grandpa on up and the old man was sure happy to ride the range once more.

My teacher helped put on the wakaw rally,at one point there were 36 sleds(i counted) sitting lost in a farmers yard and probably half were almost out of gas(including me).everyone was lost and out of gas ,my friend had to call his dad to bring us gas ,lukily we made it to st.benedict.nice route besides being lost and out of gas.everyone was really pissed off,and rightfully so.
Bumpalong
I hope you told the teacher. It was after Crystal Springs coming out of the wildlife preserve that I got lost for awhile. There was only one marker at the end of a field then I found another a mile or so away. There were tracks heading off in all directions so I didn't know where to go. I finally saw some sleds so I followed them. It appears they did a fair job marking close to town but petered out when they got further out. I'd like to see Rally organizers post mile posts every five to ten miles and have it marked on their trail maps. This simple signage would help alot. Up on LaRonge Lake they have large numbered signs on some of the islands for this very reason. Also up north they post mile signs on trhe long distance roads. Also some people are using those red Co-op flags Co-op uses to flag lumber loads with. Those tend to stand out. Thanks for posting. I didn't know it was that bad.

it just happens that this teacher is a real dick so im not afraid to tell him the truth.....so will my friends who came with me on the rally.

hope you have a good day on the asquith rally... i would drive the 1 1/2" to ride there but i have to work... you posted on short notice! hahahahha! TOO DAM WARM TODAY!!! ARRGG! I HATE WARM WEATHER AND WIND!!!! that wind we had two days ago... geessshh blew the snow right out of the fields.... summerfallow is black again!
Bumpalong
Saw a lot of sleds out today. Environment Canada said rain tonite and plus three tomorow for Saskatoon. Weather Channel, however, said snow flurries (40%) and plus one. Now I see everyone agreeing on -6 over nite chance of snow warming to +2 for saturday. I study the weather more than my bank statements.. We need snow in this vicinity soon otherwise it's gonna be trailer the sleds north. I wish I knew when that Tway Rally happens. They are quite a large rally with lotza prizes. I googled it on google earth (highly recomend the download plus its free) and it's east of Wakaw. I hope they mark their trails better than the Wakaw folks.

Asquith/ Eagle Creek Rally was alright but small. The trail was fairly well marked. The food was good as per usual. The snow pac was adequate but nothing great. It was good to see the sun and I had some good fun playing in the hills. We need snow quick.

Saskatoon Snowmobile Club dayride (almost a ralley) leaves clubhouse at 10 AM FEB 2. Then a DOUBLE HEADER: FEB 9 as mentioned Vanscoy (12 miles west of Saskatoon on Calgary highway) followed by Saskatoon Snow Club Rally FEB 10. The snows adding up around Saskatoon with 3 cms yesterday and 2cms last week. The Vanscoy Rally goes down by Pike Lake area cuts through the sand hills and makes over 60 miles. decent ride. I noticed there's alot of Rallys within a fourty mile radius of Wakaw this year and every year. I tried to locate St. Julien on a map and even googled it but I can't find it. It's around Batoche somewhere. Does anyone have directions?
