Looking to head up to the area and need to know if they have the trail markers out yet. The lake is long and narrow and usually freezes over pretty quick... Any help would be great. J. 1zhelp.gif

Im just saying what I saw.

I would take extreme caution, but I was told there was 4+ inches on nipising, I have also been on it, probably about a KM out at one point.

Nipissing is Nipissing

all lakes are diferent and freeze diferently

also just because on section of a lake is safe it does not mean the other sections are

best to know before you go!!!

The trail runs the length of Nosbonsing. The locals quite often run the lake instead of the roads around the lake. I have ice fished up there for a long time and other than last year I can't remember a year that the ice was less than three feet thick by the middle of January - first of Feb. Sampsons the skidoo dealer is at one end of the lake. He does a good business from people doing the RAP trip. If I hear anything I will post it. Henry at Birch hill camp usually gets his ice huts out as soon as the ice permits. He is quite the guy if anyone knows him!!!!!!

is the bonfield hotel still open?
-crz-
ok,

bonfield hotel = condemmed, sad but true. no longer open

I am away from home this weekend, but as of friday the lake was still not safe....there was 4" of good ice in one section, and an inch of shit ice + slush in other sections....

so from a locals point of view, I would still not ride it yet....

I also agree.....all lakes are different, Nippissing is a completely different story.

Take Care, ride safe

Too bad about the bonfield hotel... It had one of the most amazing pool table setups I have ever seen. Hated coming out of there at closing at -30 and seeing an OPP idling in the parking lot..... Long walk down that lake to Birch hill camp!!!!!!! Thanks for the ice report. Looks like there is a ton of snow up there! luxhello.gif

Depending on how much snow dropped up there I bet the lakes will start to slush up.

Probably, I know Nipissing was already pretty slushy in some spots.
