i am having trouble w/ my polaris indy 400. (88`). it kept on bogging down so my friend said that i should clean the carbs. he came over and took off the airbox and sprayed carb/clutch cleaner into the carb openings and told me to rev it while he did this....it seemed to run ok for a couple of days...but i just tried to start it and it wouldnt come close to turning over.did he do this wrong? i checked the plugs and they were all fouled up so i cleaned them...tried again and it still wouldnt work, they would come out dirty every time. i think what he did may have messed the sled up more and made the carbs worse....any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

also- if you put in straight antifreeze, will this not allow your snowmobile to start?

thanks

WOW: Don't ask for help from this friend anymore, you could now have many problems going on at one time.

1. also- if you put in straight antifreeze, will this not allow your snowmobile to start?

O-Yea straight antifreeze is just as bad as adding straight water, it freezes. Get your machine in a heated shop if it is not to late.
And warm it up {thaw it out machine that is} to put in the right antifreeze mix (50%water to 50%anifreeze) would be a good start.

And let use know if it even will turn over, then we can go from there.

Good luck. ooh4.gif

hey thanks i thought this was a dumb thing to do... do yo think it might be better if i take apart the carbs the right way and put in carb cleaner? my sled keeps on fouling the plugs right off.... what does this mean? thanks

I think you need to update to a newer sled.....

The carb cleaner trick will only clear out minimal debris. You'll need to pull off the carb/carbs and fully dissasemble them. Make sure the jets are clean as well as the internals. Chances are the carb cleaner loostend up some buildup and your now seeing it on your plugs. It also could have eaten away at your intake boots, but its doubtfull.

ethylene glycol, the principal component of most antifreezes, freezes at 8 degrees above zero. if your sled has seen any colder conditions than that, you'll likely have more problems then just some blocked up carbs.
