CURRENT SNOW DEPTHS:
2 to 6 inch base

LATEST SNOW AND WEATHER:
NOT MUCH IS CHANGING FROM DAY TO DAY SO I MAY NOT UPDATE EVERY DAY.

BABY, IT IS COLD OUTSIDE!!!! During the night, we were down to -3° and this a.m. we are up to 5° above! All totaled yesterday, I think I shoveled at least 8” of fluffy accumulation off the decks! I’m told that more was received north!!! It is to remain cold for the next couple of days and flurries expected off and on.

Zen thought for the day; THE CONSTITUTION GUARANTEES FREE SPEECH. IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE LISTENERS!

Don't forget if you are not receiving the e-letter TASA TALK you can still sign up. Email me at cclementz@lighthouse.net to be included!

DON'T FORGET THE TASA PHOTO CONTEST!!! IT IS HIT US WITH YOUR BEST SHOT! There are some very nice prizes. Info can be found at www.visitnewberry.com/photocontest as well as www.tasatrails.com. I realize it might be inconvenient to have to mail REAL photos by snail mail but that is the way we have to do it for this year. Actually, it isn't all that hard to get photos made from digital; there are a LOT of online options, some people have their own photo printers and most drug stores can make photos from digitals. PLEASE HELP US MAKE THIS FIRST CONTEST A HUGE SUCCESS SO IT CAN GROW AND GROW!!!

PLEASE start looking through your photos or get prepared to take news ones!

THINK SNOW!!!

CURRENT TRAIL CONDITIONS:
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THERE IS AN 11:00 P.M. CURFEW IN THE VILLAGE OF NEWBERRY.

GREAT NEWS!!!!! WE WILL BE OPENING THE REST OF THE GATES THIS A.M.!!!! GROOMER DAN AND PRES/TRAIL BOSS BOB WILL BE TAKING TWO GROOMERS UP THE GRADE TO 3 MILE THIS MORNING. They are going armed with chainsaws and limb cutters. We know there are tree and limb issues in this area. PLEASE TRY TO STAY OFF THIS TRAIL UNTIL AT LEAST NOON! They hope to be done by then.

#9 North has been groomed from the 3 Mile Staging area to Pine Stump area. While the trail has a 6” base in most places and has been reported as excellent, more snow will only enhance our start!

#9 south to Rexton and #473 to Cut River was groomed last night by Groomer Dan. There are still hunters in the area and Dan had smoothed out all the tracks on the trail. There is about a 1 ½” base closer to Rexton and about 3-4” base as you are heading to Cut River.

#45 towards the Falls was groomed as far as M-123 by Trail Boss Bob (AKA TASA Pres). He reports the trail to be smooth and even the area where it had been plowed down has snow on it. He did encounter a couple of sledders who said that they had come through the swampy part and had made it through OK. The plan is to try to groom up to CR 500 next time out. The gates ARE open all the way through on this trail.

GRAND MARAIS TRAIL REPORT (as reported by Kay)
Base: 2 to 6" give or take
On the Ground: 12-24" and growing!!!
Past 24 Hours: Snow & Blowing Snow - 4 to 6" of new white gold!
Overall Trail Conditions: Very Good Shape
12/14/07 - We picked up about 4 to 6" of fresh snow and drifts up to a foot by the time we came in at midnight. The wind blew all night, still is a little, so it's hard to say how much we really picked up. I figure there's even more out in the snowbelt.
#88, #888 and #8 West have the best snow cover, 6+ inches of base. #443 is also in very good shape with between 2 and 4" of base south of #88 and 4 to 6" north of #88. #89 has about a 4" base with drift zones having up to 6" or more. I haven't gone east on #8 yet but the reports are very good. Heading into town we have a base of 1 to 4" along H-58 and there's about 6" along the campground.

Logging: There are logging operations all over! We have several places to watch out for:
 -- #8 West and #89 to just past the Log Slide
 -- #8 East from M-77 to #443 then north to the White Wash Road
 -- #443 from #8 south to the Township Airport
 -- #443 on the McLeod Grade
 -- #8 West (on Mahoney Lake Road) north of the RR grade
 -- #888 & #88 (on the Adams Trail)
Remember, we groom all of our trails, every night, beginning at dusk and work through the night finishing up just after dawn, weather permitting.

SENEY TRAIL REPORT (as reported by Diane Reed)
12/14/07 Seney Trail Report:
10” of new snow up north and 5” here in town overnight. Trails are in good shape, freshly groomed and ready to go. We are grooming thru the swamp on trail 431 now. There are a couple of small holes still right out of town but you can drive around them. They should be frozen in a couple of days.

PARADISE as reported by Paradise Area Night Riders.
December 13, 2007
Falls Trail #45: Fair. We have most of the water holes filled but still need some more snow to finish the job.
Very ridable with caution in the wet areas, you can get around the water holes.
Point Trail #45:
Pine Stump #8: Running Pine Stump for the first time tonight look for a report tomorrow.
Birch Hill #8: Fair, good if we get more snow. Water holes are filled, a few moist spot still there though.
Raco/Hulbert #8 & #474: Fair to poor. Mike got all the water holes filled in on the South Run except between the river and town, where we will be running the detour trail on the west side of M-123.
