Im tring to help two buddies on mine fix the clutching on the 800's. one has a renegade and the other a 121. both are spinning 8500 rpm at WOT, but i have a dyno chart from snowtech mag that SLP did. it says 8100 is peak HP and 7900 is peak TQ, this was on a 07 800R motor.
is this the correct rpms to be shooting for?
both sleds came in clicker 3 and both ran at 8500 rpms, we tried going to clicker 1 on the short track and that brought it down to 8300. that seemed to help when dragging agains another sled that was unchanged.
so it seems if he does indeed need to get to 8100 that he needs heavier weights, correct?
thanks guys

Try to adjust the belt deflection and see if it slows it down, I've gone from the top to the bottom on the primary and got more change out of the clickers. Go to 6, then try back to 1, worked for me in the past. Most of the guys that I read from shot for 8000 and got it. They also posted positive feedback.

it needs a couple more grams of pin weight in the primary.

so you can buy heavier pins? i assume thats the bolt thing that you turn to the different numbers on the primary to change rpm?
thanks for your help so far guys.

I believe there are companies that make weights with a variable pin weight in them. I think they screw in. Can just buy new tip weights each time you wanna reclutch.
Just a thought.

all the dyno things i am hearing from a few different sources all say 8100 ,,,, thats with alot of different sleds and different dynos,,, hopefully doo comes out with an update so it doesnt cost us all a clutch kit,,, droppoing pin to # 2 should make it closer but then guys doing that say then it only goes to 7800,,,,

First off i dont think doo will do anything for us,cause they dont want to admit they sent out sleds ill clutched, and not everyones sleds stop at 100 on gps, mine has seen 108 speedo, but like i said that is only 101 gps,and it was at 8450 rpms, now that is actually 8300 the tach is off by 150 according to bill cudney,he stated to me today to run it at 8200 on our digital tach, and he also stated that his clutch kit will allow it to drive right thru 100 and onto 110-115 gps on snow packed trail, the reason i believe him is i have had alot of test time on team secondaries, and this new roller doo secondary feels just like my teams, when they would not hold the upshift long enough to get it to top speed,my primary clutch shifts out completely, but does it stay shifted out for any length of distance???? No way, thats why this sled needs more than just pin weight in the primary,it may need that to,but springs pins, and helix will most likely benifit this the best.

Dalton sells set screw pins.. try this first before you change it around too much. Don't buy a clutch kit they are junk. I've had a ton of ski doos and usually you don't have to change much. more weight will give you more speed. We had a cudney kit in a 05 mach and it was not much. Clutch kits = huge helix, huge springs, huge weight, goofy ramps (usually). not great

Yes i would normally agree with you,but this new doo has an encapsulated roller, much like a team,i have had alot of team roller secondaries, and always had problems tuning them for top speed, and this new to doo, secondary is alot like a team, runs a compression spring, and if you dont play around with the helix/spring combo, you may never get the full shift to its potential, the ramp style helix you had for your mach was much easier to tune and to hold top end,the rollers like to always back shift, they are very good for agressive short riding, when i say short riding,i mean running to max shift, but as soon as you get there back shift, change direction and go again, but if any of you guys are like me you want more top speed than joe snowcrosser, thats why i dont even like the 1.25 ripsaw tracks, harder to turn and scrub off to much top speed.
