Full Version: NEED ADVICE think i blew a crank end bearing?

well i had this clunking noise when i was riding, faster i went louder it got. well i changed the 2 crank case bearings and i replaced the drive clutch side bearings, long story short i blew my belt and then i threw the spare belt on and not more than 100 feet i could see sparks coming out from between my primary clutch and the case. i was in a group of guys n we towed it back to the house.

i need opinions on what i am looking at and if any of you have had this problem. now that i am geting this all down on here i think it reved up pretty good when my belt shreded so maybe i spun a bearing. this motor is the 580 tripple mono block. what am i looking at or signs to be looking for for diagnosing my situation. all the help is greatly appreciated

I've seen a lot of XLT pto ends take a dump, that would be my guess, also you may have damaged the new bearings when installing them, depending on how it was done.

well today when i went to my buddies to pick up my sled i pulled the plugs n the pto side was greyish and the other two were fine. um i turned the primary clutch over by hand and i could hear this small grinding noise in the bearing. im going to tear it apart tonite and see how bad it really is. and keep u updated to see where im gonna go with this.

The 93 Polaris tripple was well known for this problem. The PTO side bearing does not get enough lube.

Polaris added an oil line out to that bearing on later models and made a fantastic motor out of it.

I would suggest finding a motor with the added oil line or if you are going to re-build that one, bore out the port in the case going from the bottom of the PTO side cylinder opening to give greater lube to the bearings.

you have a picture of this at all? the port in which to be bored out a bit?

i took off the head and the pto side piston was really greasy on the top, i put my finger through it and it was thick. it bogged out on me on the trail after my belt blew so maybe the belt ripped my plug wire and it was metal from the belt that wrapped around my crank. check out this pic
