Well i took that hunk of shit out for about a 20 mile ride.... So far worst investment ive made.... Shes pissin gas out the carbs hard and i talked to the dealer and he sent me to the mechanic and said i dont have a fuckin clue... Not to mention im probably going to have to replace the rear shock assembly cuz thats about shit. With it pissing gas, its pissing straight into the airbox enough so theres a rather large puddle in it... So im going to try to figure out how to adjust it and if i cant get it right and cant find a dealer to fix it for me... And not to mention the fuckin clutch sounds like its going to blow up... Well fuck it ill just have to find a road flare to light up the maine skys. Although if some one makes me a dicent offer i may take it. But for the moment. My experience with this sled SUCKS. As of now its listed for sale... $3000 OBRO Trades considered. Although solutions would be much better.

its probably something stupid... like needle and seat? before burning it and doing an insurance scam and wrecking the insurance costs for the rest of us... take an hour and relax, and go through your carbs. and i picked up my 01 800 for 2500, and it was in perfect running order, so 3 g is a bit much, dont stress it... its something stupid.

while i'm sure that you are totally pissed (if you don't believe me just find my post "gonna drop a road flare in the tank") i'm pretty sure it's something simple too.
sounds like stuck floats to me.
get a six-pack, pull the carbs, drop the bowls and give the floats and needles a good going through, and reset the float height.
i'm pretty sure that will fix you up.
as far as the shock goes...hey the sled is 6-7 years old, and unless the shocks were rebuilt recently, then it is pretty much expected maintainance.
same goes for the clutch too. new weights (if worn), spring, and shims, are gonna set you back maybe $90 bucks and another six-pack.

Well i sure as hell hope its something stupid. And by the way... I wouldnt do a insurance scam why bother, to much effort to get crap back for it. Who knows if some dumb punk who beats their shit wants to pay a good penny to beat it the rest of the way if i cant figure out the issue... Well then so be it. Although i could probably have a good kegger out in the middle of no where with the bon fire that could become of the sled. And ripass... I love your road flare idea. I couldnt remember where i had heard it. But honestly if i was to do so, well i would sure as hell post it.
And steve, i shun you for abusing a cat like that. Although i was once half considering making a mud runnin sled for shits. But it would have to be a poo or a donkey.
Stupid question, might the plugs not being hot enough cause a non complete combustion? Its runnin 8's and my fathers Bearcat runs 9's...
Another thing wouldnt u think when u take ur sled to be serviced the dumb fucks would test it out when u tell them the clutch is screwy and not to mention ITS LOADING UP ON GAS???
I went through a snow bank today.... Sounded and acted like i blew that damn belt off.... Track was tightened at servicing... WTF? Ne ideas? I dont know what to think ne more. I miss my firepussy.

that sled should be running 9's for plugs........br9eya.......clean and adjust the carbs, there are plenty of topics on this from alot of good wrenches on this site.......just do a keyword search down at the bottom of the page........rebuild the shocks and if you are a hefty fella like myself get the heavier springs for the rear........there is a great thread about front and rear suspensions from Tommcat in this zr/zl forum.........almost too much info to comprehend.........get it set up right and these sleds are a blast to ride..........

Sounds like the needle and seat, and the floats are either out ,or maybe even something sticken 1 open .
No hotter plugs will not burn the gas you speek of out of the back of the carbs.

I honestly would rebuild the carbs, they are probly dirty and need it. Replace any seals, o rings, or what ever else needs it. As for a clutch, take it off and rebuild it, if it sounds bad, you might not want to run it anymore, i've seen what a clutch can do when it blows up and 6000rpm and it ain't pretty, just luck my brother didn't get hit, the cutch blew and went straight up and down, straight through the hood and bellypan and bent the clutch guard up at a 90 degree angle. It sound as though its all maintanence issue, shocks need rebuilding every year if you ride them hard, so instead of saying the sled is junk, keep up on the maintanence and it will be fine. I haven't had a problem with mine yet, i do the shocks every year and have not had a issue with them yet, same goes for the clutch, I ride 2 seasons on a clutch which usually comes to 3000 to 5000 miles across 2 seasons, which is when you should be rebuilding it, with in that milage range.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, normally these are one of the more reliable sleds out there.
I have a used set of carbs jetted for an 800 that worked fine when I took them off. I was asking $85 plus shipping which includes the TPS unit.
Check you reed cages out as well as doing a compression test.
Let me know if you are interested.

I would say his floats are sticken open or may even haves a hole in the floats and there full of peto. He should mellow out , have a few cold ones and take the carbs apart.

Take the carbs off, dis-assemble and clean every part you can. Doesn't take much to make the needles not seat prperly or the floats to stick.

If its spitting gas back out the throat of the carbs theres a chance that the reeds are broken or bad . Be worth checking before destroying .

sounds like noone ever took care of the sled. little bit of maintenence goes a long ways.....

Im really beginning to notice. The person i got it from said his girlfriend used to ride it... If so shes a damn nut. And the clutch well needless to say. I just soon put a whole new clutch in the old bird. Ive taken the reeds out their nice and tight. Ill probably take the sled to my fathers and rip the carbs out tomorrow. Rather depressing... Theres a massive snow storm commin and i was hopin just to be ready to go. But hell ill work on the carbs while its snowin.
Is there a way you can test to see if a shock is blown or frozen or just plain shit? Cuz im wondering if the front aint just shit. cuz i can lean and the sled sinks and the shocks are or atleast look pretty tight. Who knows i might drop the rear suspension to check the tunnel cuz the suspension on this sled seems to be quite... Well fucked up. Its to tippy, my firecat sat higher and wasnt as tippy.
Also whats a good way to keep snow out of the hood? Powder inparticular? Should i buy a screen kit or just make one and spray paint it and put some normal screen behind it? Going through powder i lift the skis and drop the front end and HOLY HELL WHITE WASH. And with all that snow goin in there thats gonna kill my motor. Ive been impressed with the power, but never had so many simple but difficult problems with a sled.
Has any one made their zr a deepstuff sled? And if so how do you keep more of the snow out of the motor? Or atleast how do you limit the snow intake.
Final question for the moment... Does taking the shelf out of the airbox inprove air intake and perhaps a little bit on the fule mixing? Is it worth taking out or not?
