Hey, Im looking at buying a 1998 XLT Classic. It has 3,400 miles on it, but the sled is in excellent condition. He is asking $2,100 for it. I've only been riding for 2 years and don't have the greatest experience.

Does anyone know how much this sled is probably worth?
And I was wondering if anyone has ever had any problems with this sled?

That money will buy you more sled with less to worry about imo..great sled in the day, but you really want a twin, like an MXZ700 or XC600 or something.

i personnally wouldnt pay more that 12-1500 for that sled in premo condition. you can buy a lot of used sleds much newer(in the 2003+ range)for another 1000 dollars over what hes asking for a 98.

as said, a twin is definately the way to go. much easier to throw around. but if you have your heart set on it, i would personally offer him 1500 cash (only if in immaculate condition) take it or leave it.

I just bought a 98 XLT classic off ebay for $1025. The steel skis are a little beat up, and the track is not so hot...but it's got low miles and runs great. Already have a set of plastic skis lined up, and with the addition of a new track it's going to be a nice sled!

Another one just sold on ebay for $1750 last night, looked to be in decent condition.

The 98 and newer XLT's have a beefed up bottom, so they are not as prone to crank problems like the early 597CC motors were.

I'd say it's a good sled all around, but $2100 is too much. These guys are right, for not a whole lot more than that you could pick up a twin with the edge suspension, all around better sled. That being said, that old 600 triple is going to surprise some 500-600cc twin owners on the lake.
