The accumulation predictions are going down in a hurry.. In my area (Albany, NY) the prediction has gone from 12+ to 10, and now 3-6 inches...In the tug, it looks like they will be LUCKY to get 8, and the Sacandaga area will be lucky to get 6...
I don't know why I get my hopes up..All the hi-tech garbage the forecasters have makes them NO more accurate than they were 20 years ago..
HYPE HYPE HYPE, thats all this storm may turn out to be...

noaa and accuweather are still predicting up to 20" total on lowville and parish areas. snow fall predictions are very difficult to determine and probaby will never be completely accurate, especially lake effect situations.

It all depends on the location and strength of the secondary low when it develops off the coast and how much sleet/freezing rain mixes in. Warmer air is expected to mix in at midlevels.
I'm still hearing of the possibility of over a foot or more.
There is also a chance that a lake effect event will occur after the passage of the low.

don't gaff the thread with your banter you 2!!!
I'm in rochester and it's about 5am 16th and we are right in the middle of the split in the storm... so we only have about 5 inches now. But a good portion of the storm is still heading for us and it's moving about 10-15 miles an hour. So if it hits us going that slow then we could see another 1-12 by the end on the 16th and monday we WILL be getting some lake affect off the cold shot coming down from alberta. So I'm outta fingernails.... just biting stumps now until I get out of work and go play.
Bottom line.... 8 inches is enough for the 670

Not sure where you live in NY but you're just in a dry slot now. Tons of precip moving up from central Pa. You should get several hours of mod-heavy snow later this afternoon....which should almost double what you already have gotten and that would make the original forecast pretty much spot on.
Even if it stays as sleet and you did not get anymore accumulation......the 5 or 6 inches of dense snow that has fallen is much better than having 3 times that amount of lake effect fluff.
Enjoy your riding!

for sure. rode the other week in somewhat deep LE and it sucked. bottomed out, snow flying up over the hood so i couldn't see, etc. this stuff and what we had the last two days is great. i'm seeing snow snow mixed in with sleet now. i'm about 20 minutes sw of syracuse, finger lake area.

I was about to say the same thing. Fired up the snowblower this morning. Was all pissed because the weather man is an idiot. Then I come in for an hour, look out the window and cant see much other than the white gold falling form the sky. MAN I LOVE THIS WEATHER!!!

well.... I got out of work this morning and threw the topend back on and went out for a ride.... Sucked! fluff and wind blown fields, grass showing. The snow was crap and had a covering of about 2 inches of ice chips. I did about 15 miles and went home. Hardly worth being awake for 2 - 12 hr shifts without sleep between. I wish we had some more of the wet stuff that we got a week ago.
I'd say all in all we got about 8 inches of crappy fluff here in rochester. I'll wait until it starts thickening up before I go back out.
Maybe we will see another good storm before new years.

all together today we got about 8-12 inches of snow/sleet on top of our 8-10 last night so all in all we have a descent amount of snow...here is a pic of where i almost got stuck in the driveway coming home tonight..and i was the only one that broke a trail down 2 miles of snow ocvered roads...not fun when the snow is coming over the hood and cant see the telephone poles or anything else for that matter.

sounds like you got more lake effect than the nor'easter stuff, which was wet and heavy. the stuff we got overnight up until about 10:00 this morning was lake effect and probably accounted for the top 6" of the 24" piles we had in some areas. it's going to be some good riding in our area for awhile.
