anyone know about the snow??
samatt
Dec 14 2007, 11:25 AM
I have been watching the weather patterns over the hills and looking at the web cameras on Terry Peak and it is looking pretty bleak out there. The only snow you see at Terry Peak is the stuff they have been making. I wish the SDGF would update their site, but they wait until the 15th.
Trailshead is reporting 4 - 6 inches. OUCH !
If they had snow I would be heading there the weekend before new years.

I hope that they get some more snow out there this would be the second year of hardly any snow... I like going to the horns but it is an extra 500 miles of driving and the night life isn't nearly as fun... I hope they get some out there keep us posted on anything... I was thinking of heading out there around christmas but who knows now if there is no snow... maybe head out a weekend in January... East river trails around Aberdeen are very beat up and the snow is perty bleak... THey were generous saying that they had 8.5" seemed like a lot less than that...

I was down in A-town because that is where i am from... Came to Fargo for NDSU and stuff and seemed to have been stuck here for a while.... I have all my stuff in Aberdeen... We have a bunch more snow up here in Fargo... Out in the Lakes area there is even more... It seems to be perty decent out there i have talked to a few people that were riding out there and it looked perty nice...
Anyone hear anything on the hills yet at all??? Are they going to be getting anything this thursday???
Thanks...

Looks like only a 30% chance of snow on Friday.
bear, if you are stuck here in Fargo, and want to make a trip to the Hills, keep me in mind. Many of my riding buddies can't get past the 12 hour trip to the hills and I end up not getting to go because they are whimps. Aberdeen ois on the way, more of less.

OK GUYS I LIVE IN THE HILLS . SORRY I HAVENT LOGGED ON FOR A WHILE THE REAL WORD ON SNOW IS THIS
THERES ABOUT 6 INCHES OUT IN THE HEART OF RIDDING COUNTRY "HIGH HILLS" NOT ENOUGH TO RIDE DESCENT DUE TO THE CONSISTANCY OF THE SNOW IT FELL AS A POWDER. IT WILL MAKE A GREAT BASE FOR THE NEXT SNOW BUT WE NEED ABOUT 4 MORE INCHES TO GET GOOD TRAIL RIDDING GOING AND A FOOT FOR ME TO TAKE A SLED IN THE TREES. THE WORD ON SNOW OUT HERE IS THAT ITS GONNA COME BUT NOT TILL END OF DEC AND INTO THE FIRST OF THE YEAR ACTUALLY THE CLAIM A LOT OF SNOW THIS YEAR BUT IN JAN /FEB SO WATCH FOR THE BIG STORMS TO COME BUT WATCH CLOSE CAUSE THE HILLS ARE NOTED FOR CREATING THERE OWN WEATHER AT TIMES WE COULD GET A DUMP OF SNOW AT ANY TIME NOW THE BEST SITE TO WATCH IS WWW.WUNDERGROUND.COM CLICK ON SNOW DEPTH AND WATCH BLIND PARK THAT SITE IS JUST SOUTH OF TRAILS HEAD I LIKE TO SEE IT REACH A DEPTH OF AROUND TWENTY INCHES SO I CAN GO OUT AND CARVE IN THE MEADOWS ECT THEN DONT HAVE TO WORRIE ABOUT ROCKS OR LOGS BUT A FOOT IS ENOUGH SOUTHERN HILLS GOT MORE SNOW THAN NORTHERN RIGHT NOW . HANG ON THE SNOW GODS WILL FLUSH THE WHITE TOILET SOON.

Yeah,
I talked to my dad who lives up there and they received about 6 inches in town last night and about 8 out at Trailshead and they are expecting at least 5 more within the next couple of days. So good news if your sled is ready to go. Mine however is still not put back together and probably won't be for another 2 weeks.
Don't you guys tear up the trails too bad before I up and running again.

Sweet, connections for snow results out there. My wifes aunt lives by deadwood and she's been some what helpful. But getting info from guys riding out there is better. Were heading out there the 31st for 6 days. We were getting worried. Talking about going there till Sunday. Get drunk at Deadwood for Mardi Gra, then drive out to Big Horns or Snowies if Hills didn't have anything. Please keep me and everyone else informed. Thanks for the info
Anyone going to be out there that weekend? Have to hook up or something. We have a house rented by Deer Mountain or whatever that ski hill is. Theres about 12-16 of us goin.

Just curious why you ride the Black Hills when you live in Colorado? Or do you only ride there when you go to visit your parents?

That is the best news I have heard since I have been here (still deployed to Afghanistan). I can't wait to get back in 2 weeks and hit the trails, after I get my mods put on that I have bought since I have been here. We did get a touch of snow last week and it snowed for a few hours today. They haven't seen snow here at Kandahar for like 9 years. See yall on the trails!

Well, I ride up there for a couple of reasons. One, I get to ride and spend time with my dad who is getting up there in age (60). Two, I like the trail systems up there better. Here in Colorado everyone just wants to ride deep powder and boondock. I like fast trails and the Black Hills have some fast trails. Long straights and good corner to corner action is what I love!!
By the way, I grew up there and just love the area. Just not really any good paying jobs. My parents live in Lead and both work in Deadwood.
I will keep you up to date on anything he tells me for weather as he (my dad) watches it pretty close.

Deadwood’s annual Mardi Gras Parade – The annual parade will begin at 7pm, running up historic Main Street. Over 50,000 sets of beads will be thrown along the parade route.
This is killing me, they are getting hammered with snow right now and the temps are going to be 20+ degrees warmer than here. Maybe I should call in sick tomorrow.
