I see tracksusa.com offers rail extensions for the mountain cat 136 to 151. Is this feasible on a crossfire without adding a tunnel extension? This will only be for mountain riding then back to 136 in the Midwest. 136 to 144 just doesn't seem like enough for the pain in the ass involved....
Any help appreciated!

The XF tunnel is a 144 tunnel. If you do 151 I'm 95% sure you need to extend the tunnel. Then you really have a project. I agree with you though....is 144 really worth the effort??? I'm undecided also.

How much time are you spending out west to justify the 151 over a 144? My 144 does just fine out west. Granted it will not climb like a 162 but it will go almost anywhere I want it to. I use the 144 for cruising around the house also. If you want something bigger than a 144 buy a mountain sled, it will be cheaper in the long run.

just get the back half of the M tunnel... not very expensive.

The hard way - 153" M tunnel and rails + 3" pitch drivers + track.
The easy way - Sell it and buy a M.
If I were in your shoes, I'd go with the Ole's extensions and a 144x2" track. It's not the length that makes the difference, it's the cross-sectional surface area of the paddles pushing against the snow.

if you want to go to a 144 sell your 136 rails and but m series 141 rails. and put them on there. Then buy a 144 inch track and buy biggger back idler wheels to take up the extra slack(very little). You can either buy the m series back half of the tunnel or make your own. I was going to do this also but i bough a f cat because didnt have the money to buy a 06 or 07 crossfire and couldnt find the first year m series sled for sale. I think you could also take the 151or 153 cant remember rails and put them on the cross fire to just like the 141. make a few calls out west. i researched the issue and called a few places out west. call racin station in idaho they have the back half tunnel and rails that they take of sleds to convert them longer.

If you really need a 151 or bigger get a new sled. i t will probably be cheaper and less of a head ache.
Otherwise just get a 144"x2" track and extension from Ole's Machine and call it good. i ran a 144" for a couple years and had no problems getting around. Also I went from 136x1.75 to 144x2 and its quite a bit of differnce it those track sizes. You woudl not think 4" on the ground woudl make much of a differnce but it dose. I know ride a 153 and I kind of wish i had a 144 a little more fun to ride.

Thanks for all the great replies. I am now thinking about keeping a single track on my crossfire for both MN, WI, UP riding as well as 2 trips a year to wyoming. I have BMP do all my work for me as I don't have time to wrench on a sled and I really don't want to go back and 4th 4 times this winter. What is the max track I can get away with and still enjoy the low snow and icy trail conditions around MN but still have fun in the mountains. I was thinking a 1.5 ripsaw with 1.625 studs. Can I get away with more?
