Post conditions only.

Friday afternoon was very good....3-4 ft of fresh powder everywhere! We unloaded at the gate in Hunter's Mtn and there was about a foot there. They have the road plowed for about 15 miles (taking all their machines out) but from there on it was awesome. Hopefully the rain won't hurt it too much today.

Out for first run today, Cape Clear trails have over 2 feet of snow in places. Broke trail from Creignish Mountain to River Denys Mountain. Lots of snow, hope to see the groomer soon.

Thanks Red Rooser!!

As of December 8-9, over high ground we have around two feet of snow base as does most of the highlands. The 104 leading into Cheticamp is great and you can get right down to the Sporting Club on the main trail with only a couple of scratchy spots. Gas runs into town are not great but still alright with no real bare spots. The clubhouse is now open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as long as the snow holds. Big Intervale Fishing Lodge is open on weekends also (248-2275 for latest conditions).

The 104 around Park Spur Road is the best we have seen in years with not even one bare spot anywhere. The snow base at the park boundary is approaching 2.5 feet. The 905 through Forest Glen is alright but there are a few windfalls that we need to clear and there are stills some wet spots since the snow fell before the ground froze, overall still a good ride.

The groomer is in for maintenance this week but we hope to get a run in before next weekend if the snow holds.

Went out from Hunters and down a few side roads lots of powder!!!
The trails are OPEN and there is enough snow to get into Margaree for fuel, I was the first sled to fuel this year!

The Highland Road has been plowed for the first 15k or so, but it's packed well and there's no bare spots, and they received an easy 8 inches or more snow yesterday in the 4 hours we rode and it was snowing HARD when we left at around 6:30 pm. There's an easy 4 feet of powder on some of the untouched trails (Wildcat Rd), but I'd still be careful going in the ditches for a bit yet. North River's Oregon trail is impassible due to fallen trees, but otherwise, it's pretty good till you come across one, about 12-15 inches of snow on it.

Has the Groomer been out at all this year in the Highlands?

I just got back last night from putting 200 miles on. The snow was hard but very worth it for us. It was snowing pretty hard when we left and was just getting real good but we had enough. Its not good out past NSP in Wreck Cove but you can get down if you take your time. The fielding road was bare but you can ride the side for most of the way and we could not get to the Big Iterval as that road was bare too.
boondocker
What about in and around Margaree?
Top End
We stayed at Cranton cottages and from there it was good right up to Fielding road where it was bare but you could ride up the side on the bank. I would say by now its very good cause it was snowing hard when we left. It was worth the trip to us.
Top End
BTW watch out for moose!!
boondocker
Any updates on the weather and conditions would be appreciated. Looking to head up there Sunday morning first thing.

Was out yesterday for a quick burn. Left from my house along the trans-canada hwy. There wasn't a single track made up there! Everyone must have been hungover lol. I couldn't believe it! Bashed some drifts, it was good fun while I was home, Alberta bound once again. RMK-Cletus isn't the best picture taker sometimes frech11.gif

Hi Andrew,

Sledded into Baddeck from Margaree last winter and came out on groomed trail at McIntyre's Cottages. Stayed there on another trip when snow was only available from Hunter Mtn gate, so had to trailer up each day. Also, trail leads up from behind Tim Horton's at Baddeck. Have fun! rolleyes.gif

Ok, Thanks. I did some dirtbiking on the DRZ400 this summer up there. We ere in some narly trails behind Baddeck. Like old sled trails. #408 ? #406? etc. I cant remember. But we did go up the Big Baddeck Road then up MacIntyres Mountain Road into Hunters Mountain.... The trail come in the Highland Road by the Rollers.

Sorry I never seen this eariler Andy. I'm not sure of the snow conditions back home but I hear the snow is taking a beating? If you don't want to truck it to hunters mtn, I would say your best bet is to leave from Red Bridge out Big Baddeck. Basically, when you hit the exit on the highway for Baddeck after you go up the highway past the Irving (exit 9?), turn left and it will be the first bridge you come to, big feild there to. This will bring you out past the rollers. I know when I went up the other week, there was 2 or 3 bare wet spots. Or if you talk to Stu or Fritz at the club, or anyone haha, they would be able to tell you how to get to Wendals Pit, that would save a lot of time getting up the mtn and you could bypass those wet areas. Its about 3min or so past the bridge, but hard for me to explain it. Have a good one thumbsup.png

Sweet Thanks

Is there enough snow left up top to go for a rip this weekend ???
aburchell44
I was up yesterday. Good going. Watch out for the leftover drifts. They are not as soft as usual!!!

I went up to Fielding Rd from Hunters.
I would expect there will be some snow up there tonight. -2.0--3.0 degrees up there now.

Here is my post from yesterday

anybody know how's the snow in the highlands?
killman
Highlands are great. All the main trails are groomed and are in better shape then most of the province's highways. There's a 3-4 ft base up top and 6-8" of new powder as of Saturday, should be a lot more by tomorrow.
modmax 067
anybody heading up to do some drift busting
viper_hatt
Anyone travel to the higlands after the storm? Can we still get down for gas?
How are th trails around iron mines and whycogomah?
Renegade 800HO
I was out all day Friday..put on about 160 km. Still plenty of snow in the Highlands. It could use a grooming. You can get down for gas in Margaree no problem. There was a few wash outs but I'm sure they would have frozen by now.
