TOWN OF SAMPSON — A 43-year-old man was pulled out of Larrabee Lake in the town of Sampson after his snowmobile fell through the ice Friday night.
The man was last seen at the Salisbury Resort on State Highway 40 around 3:15 p.m., according to a press release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department. He never arrived at his destination.
The sheriff’s department and the New Auburn Fire Department responded to a call of a snowmobiler in the ice at 5:53 p.m. at the Larrabee Lodge.
Rescuers followed snowmobile tracks to a spot of open water.
The New Auburn Fire Department accessed the lake with a tracked all-terrain vehicle. They found the man and the snowmobile in approximately 7 feet of water.
The man was removed from the water, and revival efforts began.
The man was transported to the Bloomer Hospital and then to Luther Hospital where efforts to revive continued.
At press time, the condition of the man was unknown.
A Boyd man died Wednesday when his ATV fell into the ice in the town of Colburn.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department warned that ice formations on lakes and other bodies of water is not safe yet, according to the press release.
