just wondering if you have had many chances to get out for some ducks since deer season has started. ive got out a few times in the am the past few weeks since riffle closed cause i dont have my muzzle loader tag. but its starting to really heat up on the coast. today we had one of the best days in a couple years we must have seen 800 ducks and we only hunted till ten. with all the ponds freezing and even alot of the rivers icing up they are really moving to the ocean hard. ill be out in the same spot in the am for a bit before i head to the tree stand for the last day expanded. hows your pup doing have you been able to bring her out yet and are you still just working her at home?

Well i havent really been out since deer season.. But i will go out this saturday!! And a few days before and after school this week... I wish i knew more spots to go, especially on the coast since i go to school right on the ocean!!!
I havent taken her out yet.. She just turned 6 months old the beginning of this month.. I really think she needs to be force trained.. Ya know like up on the table, using the pinch method... I dont really know of any good trainers around here. And one that isnt too too expensive!!

yeah i know what you mean with the training its pretty time consuming. we got lucky with ours and didnt really have to do to much with her rather then normal obeisance stuff she is pretty much a natural with the ducks. right now im working with her on marking her ducks so she can get them all if we shoot doubles or triples and she is doing pretty well with it. where do you go to school, smcc? as for the coast you can pretty much hunt anywhere there is room lol but the best places would be the marshes obviously but the ones with bigger rivers that have fingers that spread through the marsh are the best. on reall good place around you is the scarborough marsh. we used to hunt it alot but havnt much this year. its a tough place to go on saturdays cause there is so many people but if you go durring the week before it can be really hot.

yeah i go to smcc... we are going out today to a few local spots that i know of to try and jump shoot them..
My pup will go and get something, but when she brings it back, she wont bring it right to me, she will run around me with it.. Unless i have a treat then she will bring it right back... I still need to get her used to gun fire too..

I went to smcc for the past 2 years but im at USM now. where can you go now to jump shoot that isnt frozen? we have ponds by me that are being ice fished already and alot of the rivers are froze too.
if she wants a treat then thats what you need to do for now and just slowly wean her off of them and she will come around it make take a while but she will. and when she doesnt do exactly what she is suppose to do dont be mean with her just be stern. trust me they know the difference and can be very sensitive lol

yeah we get quite a few bufflehead they are fun to shoot cause they fly so fast and low to the water. i shot on the other day that was absolutely gorgeous and i would have mounted it if i had the money lol. yeah i have been real busy with finals and all that too i havnt gone out this week other then one afternoon. we are going to wells in the am and my buddy said they have been flying really well there all week. him and his dad shot 9 birds there this morning and they didnt even get out there till 8 or so and left before lunch. we got a few guess last weekend they are really exciting to shoot cause once you get them to turn you know they are coming to you but they just take so damn long for them to get there lol. good luck tomorrow and stay warm its only suppose to be in the single digits till miday

Holy shit was it cold this morning!!!! I was frozen, and the spot we went to, i guess the ducks were cold too because they werent flying!!! I did shoot at a goose that was too far away..
We picked up there and checked out this pond that we jump shoot from, and let me say this, the pond is about the size of an ice hockey rink.. There must of been atleast 50 ducks and 12 or so geese in the pond!! I shot a nice greenhead and a hen.. Missed another goose god dang it!! I probably couldve got one, but we crawled in the snow for a ways and my gun was freezing up!! So wasnt my buddies too.. He shot his limit on mallards.. The weird thing is, we were sitting in the field, in our camo, sticking out like sore thumbs, and the ducks were pouring in right above us to this pond!!
Im going to go back monday and just wait there, even though i dont have any decoys or calls... Ill just wait for them to come in.. Since i have all day because of no class!!

sounds like you had a pretty good day out there. the geese a real tough to kill
yeah it was deff cold on sat but monday was even worse we froze our asses of once the wind picked up. we had the same prob on sat with it being low tide and so cold all the ducks were just huddled up on the sand bars and not flying at all. sat afternoon however was a different story we got our limit on both black ducks and mallards and prob woulda got our geese limits too if i wouldnt have forgotten my damn goose call
we went back to the same spot on monday morning and the ducks only flew for about 45 min we did get our black duck limit again though and each got one mallard and i shot two bufflehead with one shot!

thats sick i wish we had the geese like you do too. we were starting to get into the geese pretty good here at the end of the season. we were getting out limit almost everyday which is only 2 each here durring the late season. the duck hunting here is def fun but its nothing like the real flyways we still have quite a few days a season with out seeing a duck in shooting range and sometimes not a duck period but hey thats hunting right.
