Hey Guys,

Basically discussed this subject before, but I would like to make sure that I am doing it right.

Am now finishing up my " Retirement/Vintage/Oval Race Project " which is a 1976 Merc 340 Trail Twister. Have pretty much done over the entire sled, with new motor, loop racing handle bars, Comet 102 Clutch, rebuilt Secondary clutch, HewTech CDI, Northstar skis with 10 inch carbides, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, etc., etc, etc. But the one part of this project that I am still not sure of, is the suspension.

When I originally purchased the sled, I knew that it had been previously raced. And when I pulled out the suspension, I found it to have NO front suspension springs.
After talking with a few vintage racers on the internet, they have told me to not replace the front suspension springs. Their explanation is that removing them greatly improves the handling in the turns. And one individual stated that it also allows people to run a looser track. But that is another story that I will not get into right now. Others folks have stated that none of their oval race sleds are running front suspension springs.

As I said, this sled is a retirement project for me and the sled will only be used for oval racing. Do I expect to do any winning ? Hell no !! Just thought I would have some fun. But I would like to be sure at least in my mind that I did put this sled together right. Undecided Thus any and all opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and consideration, fellows.
