Hello all, I am trying to figure out what a good clutching set up to use in my 04 pro-x2 800. sled tears trail up corner to corner buts hits a brick wall at 80mph or so, on a lake/open trail run. looking for more top end, and dont mind loosing a bit of back shift on the trail riding. i take it on ponds and lakes and run 660' to 1000' drag races, radar runs. get spanked by sleds of equal engine size, ski do revs, cats, yamahas, mostly all stock machines. i realise a lot of hp/ torque im making is never getting to the ground.ide like to get this sled up in the triple digits and not wait forever at WOT to get there. its still november and im already hearing the smack talk from the boys telling
me to sell this iron dog. not happenin. ive been looking through pages and pages on this forum but still confused. have a pretty good idea for clutch springs but the helix??? i ride between 0'- 2500' this is what im running.

stock pipe into a rumble pack can
jetted down from stock 450 main to 440
slp hi volume air box kit
1-1/4 -121 track 160 studs down center belt
v force reeds
heavy hitters loaded to 70grms
stock gears..25/40 but have a 24 top i could use
stock clutching....blk/green pri blk/red sec 62-46-46 helix
has team tss-98 secondary

i appreciate any input and responses, thanks Al...

70 grams with a stock pipe? Sounds awfully heavy to me, I run 66grams with a SLP single pipe. And i would ditch the rumble pack can, you losing power with it.

POLARISPUNK...THANKS FOR THE INFO, YOU THINK MORE POWER RUNNING EXHAUST THRU THE STOCK CAN? I WILL TRY KNOCKING A FEW GRAMS OF THE HEAVY HITTERS . ANY IDEA ON A HELIX?

I can't say how the heavy hitters should be set-up. You should junk that black/green primary spring. Go to an almond/blue. Put the delrin washers in the secondary. Jet the mains down to 430. Verify that the throttle cable is adjusted tight enough that the slides clear the bores of the carbs completely at full throttle. You should only have .030" freeplay clearance at the throttle lever to block. Adjust the enigne torque stop tight, and verify the clutch alignment. The primary belt to sheave clearance should not be more than .020". If you have changed the ves to stainless, you should have the green/yellow springs at the heaviest. I would also check the timing with a dial indicator. Many of the 04's had the timing off from the factory. Also check the tps adjustment. You want 78-7900 rpm max on a calibrated tach.

POCKETS, thanks for all the info, ive read quite a few comments youve posted , and have seen your recomendations for clutching set ups, what would you recomend for a helix to deliver better top end in the 660'...? progressive helix? you seen to know your clutching. thanks...
mr.prox
pockets had recommended a 720 team progressive helix in another thread for a modded 700 and he also said they work well for the 800's. put the delrin washers in the secondary, replace your secondary spring it if has any amount of miles on it. put the new almond/blue primary in and adjust the weight on your heavy hitters until you get the top rpms you need of 7800 rpm.

The helix your running is ok but if Ihad to spend money on one I would get the 420720 , it has 3 angles and will pull harder threw the midrange then a standard 2 angle but it still has the big hit out of the gate . I do agree that primary spring is a issue , a finish rate or 360 is going to lock up at some point and it think you have found it. A primary spring with a 310 or 320 finish is much smoother as it shifts out. 70 grams may be a little much , I would get polaris 10-68 or daltons . All the check points pockets has pointed out are are very good items to look at .
SIDING GUY
Triple digits? The PRO-X is not really the best chassis for top speed, but there is always room for improvement. How do you do against XC 800's?
abw2323
siding guy.. with current set up my sled will hammer a stock xc-800 outa the hole to 500 feet or so then the xc starts finger walking right on by.. at 1000' im couple sled lengths behind...my top end suffers with the studs.....160qty 1.50" studs ,backers, stud spacers....adds up to near 19lbs of rotating weight....

yeah pro-x's usually dont have **** for top end, even against my buddies non-ves 01 800 edge, ill walk on him bad till 90 and thenits like i let off the gas and slam on the brakes, thats how fast he comes by me. cant wait till he gets a 1.25 track and studs and ill kill him everywhere!!
