I am looking for a new digital camera...I have an Olympus.( don't remember model) I really like the size, pic quality...but I HATE how long it takes to capture a picture. Anyone have any suggestions...don't wanna spend a mint...but something reasonable.

BTW for the speed of how quick the camera can capture a picture....is it shutter speed that i am looking at?

Shutter speed is not what you're after here...shutter speed is just the length of time that the shutter is open. It varies according to the lighting conditions. So while it does influence how long it takes to snap a pic, it's not the thing to be concerned with.

I'm no camera whiz but you want a camera with a fast processor, and using a fast memory card helps too. Every picture you take needs to be digitally "created" by the processor, then written to the memory card. I'm not sure if there are other factors.

If you want something small stick with the Canon ELPH cameras or the Sony W80/90. They both have a fast capture speed on them. As the post above states, go with a fast memory card. A standard card writes at 2mb/sec when a high speed card writes at 10mb/sec (SanDisk Ultra II). For your point and shoot camera, this will be a big increase as you will be able to shoot consecutive pictures much faster. There is a card that can write at 20mb/sec, but it is overkill unless you have an SLR.

I have got a 1986 Polaroid. It is a sweet deal...Pictures developed instantly..How much better can it get.

I've delt with many digi-cams and the DSLR's are MUCH faster than any point and shoot. They do everything faster, you'll be amazed at the speed when compared to a P/S. Stick to Nikon or Canon and be happy.
If cameras were guns, your point and shoot would be a musket and my D200 would be an M-16. I also have a 4 year old D70 and it is still very quick off of the hip.

BTW, shutter speed has nothing to do with the speed of the camera. Don't be afraid to use the "slow" memory cards, they will only slow your uploading to your computer.

I agree with rapeape, Digital SLR's are the best way to go. I have a Canon 400d (rebel XTi) and it is hands down the quickest camera I have ever owned and I have owned ALOT of point and shoots. I had the same problem as you none of the p&s cameras would take a picture quick enough for me.

The only downfall to a DSLR is you can't put it in a coat pocket, other than that the DSLR's (atleast the Canon and Nikon's) are superior to any P&S.

I looove my canon A430, future shop has the next model up the a460 (5mp version) it is the best camera i have had so far. It turns in and off in a snap (lol pun). Without flash the camera can take a picture about every 1.6 seconds for as long as you need (an aprox guess that i found out by trying to take pics rapidly). With the flash it takes 2-3 seconds to recharge. The only reason i am upgrading is i have enough cash for an slr now!

It's an excellent camera!

I use a Nikon Coolpix P5100 camera. It's a point and shoot, but it has a lot of the DSLR type controls, and it's 12.1 MP. It allowed me to come as close as I could to a DSLR, and still be able to carry it in my pocket when I'm on the trails.
