The new deadline means some people who have already signed up for the program must re-enroll if they want to continue opting out of telemarketing calls.
Not everyone must re-enroll. Numbers expire after two years, and the state recommends that people renew their listing even if they’re unsure when it expires.
‘‘If they don’t know if their number is going to be dropping off or if they have noticed an increase in calls, they should be sure to sign up,’’ said Jeanne Burt, manager of the consumer information center at the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
It’s possible that thousands of people may drop off the registry if they don’t re-enroll.
The new registry will be updated Jan. 1, but the deadline to register is a month earlier.
If people don’t get on the list, it’ll be three months before they can sign up again, Burt said, because the next deadline will be in March.
Burt said people can register online at https://nocall.wisconsin.gov or by calling 866-966-2255 any time.
There are currently about 930,000 people on the list, up nearly 20 percent from 779,000 in July.
