I am wanting to put the pipes back on my 96 zrt 600 for a little bit, i have 30 pilots and 390 mains my sled has DG can, ported and polished, heads shaved, boyesen reeds, thundershift clutch kit, K&N filters, PSI pipes. just wondering what size of jets you guys think i should run when i put the pipes back on??? So it wont go through pistons like it did before with them on. It was raced in the 660 for all its life before i owned it. So it was really lean and would melt on normal rides... thanks

i think i would put 35 pilots in it,your mains should be close maybe a little fat but thats good, take it out and do some wot runs with it and check your plugs then adjust until you get the nice brown color to them.

On my 96, when I ran round slides, I ran 320/330 mains and a 35/40 pilot (I had a tempaflow on top of that). I actually run pods though, and have a tempaflow as well, runs well, I have EGT's also.

Last year when i had 360 mains in, it was really lean and i had the exhaust side of my piston melted off lol. So i switched the mains 3 sizes up and it seems to like these, havent had any pistons melt. And what are tempaflows?..thanks

320-330 mains I think your talking stock pipes hes refering to aftermarket pipes.

D&D trail pipes, and Black Magic ceramic coated trail pipes, both intoa D&D can.

It's a device which control's carb bowl pressure based on temperature. It actually leans it out further. Something is wrong, if 360's are leaning it out, 360's are pig rich on the 96 ZRT 600, are you sure all your carb bots are sealed? Your Pilots are too small as well, could this be part of your issue? 96's came with 35's, but they jumped them up to 40's in 97, because of off idle issues, the pilot circuit supplies fuel across the range.

Well like i said before my sled is not stock at all, ported and polished, heads shaved, K&N filters, port timing is changed, DG can, and boyesen reeds. All that stuff must make a difference on the jet size. And also driving in -10 to -20 most of the time too.But my pilots could be too smal too im nopt sure..thanks

Yes, well, not so much. I don't drive in -10 to -20 though, a little warmer then that in mid michigan most of the time. Your pilots are certainly too small, I bet your idle/off-idle circuit is what are causing your issue, your oversized mains are just compensating for the undersized pilots. Bump the pilots, then start jetting down, until your plugs look good.

Ok thanks, last year i did put 45 pilots in and it was so rich that if i let it idle when i took off there would be black snow from my exhaust...so i put the 30's back in and it seemed to run fine. I will try your idea and let you know how it works out...Thanks
