Medal of Valour for Cst. Chris Garrett - Cobourg Police Service

Cst. Chris Garrett of the Cobourg Police Service was murdered on May 18th 2004 while on duty by then 18 year old Troy Davey. Garrett was responding to a robbery call and although he had his throat slashed by the accused, he managed to wound Davey with his service pistol.

His nomination for the Medal of Valour was delayed due to the trial of the accused in the murder case. The current rule is that the nomination has to be made within a two year time frame.

This worthy petition was authored by Eric Spagnolo (a colleague of Cst. Garrett) and simply asks for the ability of an extension of the two year in the case of an officer killed in the line of duty, where an earlier nomination may affect any criminal proceedings.
