According to a news article i read-
New this year is a corridor trail system that will allow snowmobilers to travel throughout the state without having to rely on local trail maps every time they leave one trail system and enter another. This will allow those who want to spend several days traveling the state by snowmobile to do so safely.
Sounds like the system WI has, which I like!
Looked at the MN Dnr.... Nothing about it.
Any of U have info on the MN corridor trail system?

it sounds like it could take another year to get up and running because of the loss of some trails

The corridor trail system is on its second attempt to get it accomplished. The idea was put forth a few years back, but never completed.
MNUSA is the force behind the corridor trails, and info might be on the MNUSA site. ( I didn't check.) They are working with local clubs to get the "corridor" markers installed. Markers will be placed at trail junctions so riders can continue of the corridor choice w/o confusion, othrewise there are no other markers along the way. Again, just at junctions, beginnings, or trail endings.
Markers are about 6" x 6" square (not diamond) and reflective orange w/black print. (They could have been a tad larger IMO.)
Here in Crow wing county the Brainerd Snodeo's club is taking care of corridor marking on trails that are part of the system. The trails go by a specific number that will follow the entire route which might be 100's of miles in some cases.
In CW county, trail number 35, and 41 will pass through.
Hope this helps some.
Roger.

Will this corridor system be throughout the entire state?

It's a very useful system, NH has it, but the corridor trails get BEAT TO DEATH. The "imports" ride them almost exclusively because the club trails are smaller and have way less signage. My club has found 90% of riders get worried about getting too far from "home" or outright lost....and they never see the other half of the trail system....they get jus so far out there and turn around and head back to "safety" on the "main" trails....it means the lesser traveled trails will see even LESS traffic. good for the locals!

F5Snowpro; yes the corridors are projected to run from border to border, N-S, E-W.
OT,
I can understand the increades traffic. We need a good snow year for a change, or corridors won't matter. LOL.
Some counties have GPS logged all trails, and have mile markers on all trails. We have done this in Crow Wing, and followed the model of Itasca county, since they were the first.
The GPS data and the coordinates of each mile marker are in the 9-1-1 dispatch system. Anyone hurt, lost, or whatever, can call 9-1-1 and if they can give the dispatcher the mile marker number of the trail they are on, they can be found much quicker, and proper emergency equipment dispatched.
Instead of saying I'm near a white barn with a fence .
Our trail maps also are produced and printed with the same GPS trail data. No more "magic marker" best guess trail routes on the map. The background map, and the trails match exactly.

Not a snowballs chance in hell of you getting your grubby mitts on this evil "mother earth re-arranging" machine! In fact last weekend I was at my in-laws putting the beat down on the river bottoms in Motley. Had to get it dirty before winter!

I think it already exists. It's called M.I.T.S. or Minnesota Interconnecting Trail System. There's MITS 35 and 71 running n/s and mits 2 running w/e, and I'm probably missing one or two. MITS 35 used to run right through Scott County and used to be marked on the Sno-Trails map. I remember seeing the trail signed as such a few years back. I believe it went through belle plane if memory serves me right and then over towards the real I-35.

When I was at the snow show I stopped by the dnr booth and picked up a new set of quaderent maps. They have all the corridor trails marked on them. here in red wing we are still waiting for the signs from the dnr to mark them but the run just like the highway system odd number running north and south, and even numbers east/west.

I was looking at this recently...Whats the differance between Primary corridor and secondary? Are the primary's the big trails and the secondary's less used, If its a major corridor, does that mean it's not ditchbanging and its an actual trail? nw the little orange lines I would suspect be ditchbanging but the purples would be trails, is this correct?

I can answer this part-
It is in the Legend-
Orange lines = Grant in aid trails
Purple lines = State trail

, wonder when we will see the signs .
I wonder if the Cannon Falls area has the signs? From the Cannon Falls Paper-
In addition to the many miles of trail established and maintained by Dakota County clubs, the county is crossed by several "corridor" trails established by the state snowmobile association in cooperation with the local clubs.
These new trails, Schaack said, are part of a system of trails extending the entire length and breadth of the state. State Corridor #22 begins at Miesville, and heads pretty much straight west. State Corridor #20 begins at Randolph and travels west to Waterford Township, north parallel to Blaine Avenue, and west from Castle Rock Township and across Interstate 35 to New Market. State Corridor #95 heads north from Red Wing to a point just south of Hastings, then west to Rosemount.Schaack at 507-263-3178 for more information on the Hampton club
And-
In rural areas, trail right-of-ways are 20 feet wide, and riders should stay on those trails, Schaack said, since failure to stay on the trail is considered trespassing, and tickets will be issued. Vandalism and littering are other issues that often cause problems for landowners. =================================================================
Just called the DNR and will get back to me about the Corridor Signs and the Primary and Secondary ?

its basically up to the local clubs to help get the corridor systems signed. They have about 10-15% done right now, need assistance with the rest

I have started to see a few of the corridor trail signs, the lettering is too small to see on the fly, but when you are not sure what intersection you are at on a map they will be great. The corridor trails are a great idea!

how far south will the corridor trail go. will it go south near Rochester MN.

http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/snowmobiling/map4.pdf Way south! And the DNR says that the corridor system is the MN snowmobile ass. 'gig'. And signs comes from them. They will have the info on that.
