Looking at picking one of these up.

What's the HP and top end on one of these in stock trim? I've not been able to find that spec on the web.

How many studs do those of you who have them recommend for aggressive trail riding? Is there a big difference on the trail between the 800 and 600 of that year? Meaning, does the 800 ride a lot heavier?

Thanks!

HP bone stock, I'd say low 130's. Top end varies. My 02 bone stock struggled to reach 100 on the speedo, some clutching took care of that, 115 on the dream-o meter no problem.

As for weight, the 800 is 9 lbs heavier than the 6 according to specs. But the 6 has a lower center of gravity, and less rotating mass in the engine, so on tight trails it will have an advantage.

Most '02 XC800 dyno runs I've seen were 137 HP to 140 HP @ 7,800 RPM.
Stock jetting was way fat.

137 hp in stock form, like he said stock jetting is fat.My buddies 02 800 bone stock would show 105-110mph
every time on hardpack. We also have 2 600 edges in our group[01 and 04]and the 800 is alot cheaper
on fuel and he is always there before them.I had an 03 800 and loved it!!![not stock though!]

Back in 01/02 , Dynoport dynoed the 02 XC800 at 140.2HP but "had to jet down considerably to find the power" according to Rich Daly. With BSFC numbers in the .5's , that jetting would not be good for anything but short drags.

great sled overall, my dad loves his he gets better milage than my 05 600. its got 137 hp, as for studs i would run 144 btu if you modify it at all i would run 192

I just pulled the trigger on a new 2002 800 XC/SP. $4400 OTD and a one year warranty. Seemed like a good deal. Now for the mods.
