Good sleds - fairly picky on jetting. Won't keep up in a lake race (fairly quick, just not fast). Should do OK on a tight trail. Max speed would be mid 80's.... One guy bought an 2002 for his kids and radar'ed it and got 84 mph. Best thing you can do is get a tempa flow and make sure the fan outlet matches the hood.

had an 03 and it was 75 top speed (200 pound rider) if you get one jet down one size leaner than stock, also get a clutch kit, goodwin or epi or hot seat, or any other good company. The stock helix had to steep of an angle and polaris had the porting set up for all top end so the sled is good when it really cold but anything over 20 out the sled will be a bit doggy w/o a clutch kit, also studs would help. Not a bad sled over all if you don't mind it being a bit off on performance from time to time when the weather gets warm out. Hope that helps

I have a pro-x 440 liquid (factory mod) and I believe its the rider not the sled. I ride with nearly all 600's and 700's and I have no problem keeping up. Like they said, the lake is the only place you will fall behind. Otherwise the sled is so light and manuverable I wouldn't change it out for a bigger one. If you ride mainly ditches and trails, I dont know why you need a faster top end, the hole shot matters most here!

^^^ I'm with Bump on this one! I hate to say it but if you want to go fast get an F1000.....Why are you looking at a fan if you want top end anyway??. 440's are very rewarding when ridden fast! I wouldn't change mine either!

Fast is overrated. Quick on the other hand is fun.

Being doggy in warmer weather is just cause of jetting dude, they are picky on jetting and if you dont have them close they are gonna be doggy. So, in warmer weather, jet it for warm weather and it will run good. I had a competitor on I believe it was an 02, and I was on my cat snopro fan and he could consistently pull me on straightaways, annoyed the hell out of me!

played around with jetting till my eyes fell out, do a search the later 440 fans were clutched and ported to high

I would recommend looking for a liquid. I also have a fan and I just feel better on the liquid

Thats funny... I haven't had any troubles with mine - outside of learning the jetting when I got it. In fact, I have since added more helix (and lower gear). It runs awesome (for a fan) in all temps. Yes, it is high strung, but if you stay on top of the jetting, the stock set up is fairly good.

i owned a 2002 very tempermental. poor choice for 2nd sled. i played with jetting. it was too rich and foul plug or too lean under load. i added a tempra flow. no help. i think the fix is a CDI box which may have appeared on the 2003-2004. that sled is for a hands on tuner regardless of year. IMO.

Yes, there was an updated CDI. I seemed to help in my case, but others have said that it made no difference. You are right though, it does take a hands on tuner. Honestly though, my sled isn't that bad. If you follow the updated jetting chart then you won't have too much trouble. If you're even one size too big for the given temp, it won't pull the clutching, it won't pull RPM, it won't do squat. I have since ventured even leaner yet and had good results. The biggest thing is that this isn't a cruise sled, this isn't a lake racer... It's a ditch banging sled. Maybe thats why I never had trouble with it??? Yes, when I first got it, I had some troubles (the ones everyone talks about), but that soon went away.

I had an "02 fanner. Installed a tempaflow and ground the stock weights down by 2 grams. Awesome little sled. With a tempaflow it ran great cold or warm. Must run the sled in the premium key position with premium fuel. The motor drops 20hp when key is placed in regular position. The "02 is much stronger than "03. I still kick myself for selling that sled.
