Hey guys,
just picked up an 88 blaster. It's my first quad but I'm very good with 2 strokes. I was wondering if it is possible to get rid of the oil injection system without a blockoff kit. I've done this in jet skis but I want to make sure it would work for this application. The idea is that you take a piece of tubing, fill it with 2 stroke and run it from the inlet on the pump to the outlet. This way the pump won't burn out but it would eliminate the need for a blockoff kit. Also I would just need to plug the carb inlet where the oil injection used to go. Let me know what you guys think for this application. Also, after the injection is eliminated, what ratio should I be using. All stock.

lol.... umm do a block off its easier there are TONS of aftermarket companys making stuff for the blaster wont be hard to find one... mixture i believe should be around 40:1, but im not 100% sure.....

I think all i did with mine was removed the oil resevoir and mixed the oil same as my 250r never used a blockoff kit. This was 10 yrs., ago so i can't remember the oil ratio. Raced it that way for one full season, with no meltdowns.

thanks for the help doo. I'm in the process of rebuilding it now. (piston skirt went bye bye) I figured as such with the oil pump.

Blaster engine rebuilds are very simple. I got rid of the oil injection on ours and the blockoff plate kit was only $20 including the gaskets and instructions. I had the engine bored 60 over(local shop does it for $30) and the piston w/full gaskets kits and rings was only$70. It was very easy. The skirt detonated on the old piston too.

excellent thanks for the advice!

I just bought a BLASTER for my kids. Is thier a problem with the oil injection on these quads? Just wondering why your converting to pre-mix.They haven't even run a full tank of gas through it yet, but it seems like it hardly uses any oil.

peace of mind
been a while(banshee now)but i believe it had a plastic gear that drives pump.
when gear goes bad/stripps...no lube.

ran a toomey on mine ..ditch the factory pipe if you have one
yama lube mixed at 32/1 per toomey
all oils run their own mix so follow oil instructions

anyone have a link to where I can get the block off plate or a picture of one? Can I take the oil pump off and see this gear or is it internal? Also, I would like to change the gear lube. How many ounces? What kind and wieght? They will be riding it on the ice in cold weather mostly.

block off kit
http://www.vitosperformance.com/atv_parts/home.php?cat=243
i used them a couple years ago..had no problems ,ordered online

you have to pull clutch /case cover off right side
remove smaller acess cover and unbolt pump
then pull big clutch cover and remove clip after the gear ,remove whole assembly and bolt new plate on with suplied gaskets.
a touch of threadlocker does'nt hurt either.
take about a 1/2 hour +/-
refill w/ fluid

i don't know how mechanical you are ..you can make it (plate) yourself but kit is easy and comes with new gaskets

another site that shows factory scematics
punch in info under factory parts,

shows oil pump and covers
let me know if you need any other info beer_cheers.gif
