I'm surprised no one has made a thread for this yet. What type of grilling do you prefer, gas or charcoal? Why? What brand of grills do you prefer? I know it's not grilling season but hell it's still a controversial topic.

No doubt about it I prefer charcoal 10 to 1......for the simple reason that it has better flavor
As for the brand of grill to use I don't care what brand it is as long as it gets the job done.

Use the weber for gas and a small brinkmann offset for charcoal(which I also prefer). Then I roll out the homemade one for the bigger partys and cook-off comps.

Nice Smoker!!!

Thanks! It was busy last weekend. Smoked 4 turkeys for 2 hours and finished them in the turkey fryer, awesome combination.

I have an inexpensive kettle type grill. Nothing fancy like those!

I buy chunks of mesquite wood off eBay and will take a couple to soak overnight in water. Put those in on the edges when grilling and get a really good flavor to the meats.

Real wood, definitely. Let it burn down to coals and then start grillin. Cowboy charcoal is a good substitute but burns very hot and very quickly. Remember, grilling is hot and faster but the good stufff is done low and slow. 250* or less for long periods of time. Pork butt and brisket etc... Gotta love this stuff year round.

I have come to prefer gas, in general, over the years. I really don't see much difference in taste and think most couldn't tell the difference in a blind tasting. Some may have enough descimination in their taste buds to tell, but I really doubt most can when they can't see it done. My biggest complaint agains charcoal is getting rid of the ash when you are done. Then there is the difficulty of getting true charcoal rather than the brickettes with all the crap in them. Still, I do like charcaol for when I want a hotter grill and have a weber kettle as well as a small, tabletop model. With gas one can always use a cast iron box with slits containing wet wood chips or wet wood chips in foil with some holes poked in to add a "smoky" flavor if you can taste the difference. Hmmm, perhaps doing that with cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, or nutmegs would work with some meats, too. Might have to give that a try.

you men are so silly, gasoline is very dangerous and should not be used for grilling!
