well,,,, all I can do is tell it like it is --- I went from the dealer straight to a local trucking company's scale which was calibrated two weeks ago, the gas tank is one bar from half tank - the oil is about half - no studs - the sled has elec. start. -------------- 480 lbs was the weight on this scale, "which rounds to the nearest 5 lbs." 478=480 and 482=480. I am installing my ported cyl., billet head, y pipe, pipe mod and studds. I may remove the elect. start????

But...it sure is nice to push the button and Vrooom! I can live with the extra weight for that push button convenience.

I'm going to remove the foam, plastic from the clutch cover, tool holder, and warning stickers(real difference maker). That should save a pound or two. If I really want to get light(w/o H.P. loss), I'll get a MBRP can.

Things that short weighed on truck scales must be weighed end to end, weigh the sled on one end then weigh it on the other end of the scale, it will almost always weigh different, those scales are made for long, very heavy items and will usually be off some when weighing under 2000 lbs. Long story, but I used to inspect and calibrate truck scales.

Unfortunatly you are correct. The F8 is the heaviest 2 stroke in it's class by a fair margin. Though they have the ride down pat, but myself loved the Orange f7's. Imo the F7 was one of the best looking sleds on snow. This new xp 8 has nothing to contend with it this year until the poo 8 comes out stirthepot.gif

Good luck to you first year testers and thanks for doing so for the community.

There is a good link around here somewhere about 08 mountain sleds being weighed wet. The FULL wet weight of the Doo was 90 lbs heavier than BRP's DRY weight.
The dry weight for a 800xpx is 425 + 23lbs (E/S) + 90lbs (gas etc.)= 538 ready to ride.
According to supertrax a fully wet F8 with electric and reverse is 652 lbs.

Holy fat cat batman!!! That's nearly 115 lbs difference!!!!!
I don't care who you are, that is going to affect perfromance.
Can you imagine going to a drag race or a high speed run with your girlfriend on the back!!!

I can see Yammi stealing cat owners. Why would anyone own a 2 S that is HEAVIER than a 4 S with FAR better quality, and by a large margin in both weight and quality? I figure a fully loaded NitroRTX to come in at about 610 lbs according to the wet weight of a NitroMTX at 630 lbs.

all you need to do is weigh the trailer / truck loaded with the sled then unload the trailer and reweigh the trailer/ truck and do the math when using a truck or large type scale.. buttrock.gif

I had a 2003 F7, and I put 4700 miles on it and I beat the chit out of it. I never had any issues with it at all.
As a matter of fact my buddy bought it off of me, and my old F7 has 7000 trouble free miles on it now.

What are you talking about, My 2003 F7 was very reliable.
Now I had a 2005 Rev 800 and talk about alot of problems. Let me remind you about one of the problems.... Piston rings
I had my rings replaced twice with in 2500 miles and the second time Ski Doo did not warranty them.

The founder of this website bought an 03 F-7 new, sold it with 13+ thousand miles on it, and it now has well over 20K miles. Mine has 4K [i]hard]/i] miles on it and it's had zero maintenence done to it, haven't even tightened the track yet. BTW, bashing any sled in a dedicated forum is the no-no, so you're wrong.

No, whats REALLY gonna be funny is when a lot of the new 800's line up on the lake and a lowly, old, clapped out, obsolete F7 with a fat guy on it hands them their ass.

And there will be XP victims.

yeah like the whopping 165 hp that the f-1000 has is so much more to handle. pffft. didnt cat have 170 hp 8 years ago? except that was a sled that could haul ass. 120 mph in 1000' stock motor is very doable with a t cat. what can the f1000 do? hit bumps? big deal.

I just seen the xp video wow the new xp is going to be a very fun sled to ride.I would say that cat went backwards in time on the f series. And polaris well we know it's just a matter of time before there out of buisness.

I was lookng at an 800r renedage last week. It is a large sled. I picked up the back and freaked how light it was. Then I went to the front and knew I could lift the skis off the ground, but to my surprise I easily lifted it to my waist. I orderd one that day. I hope that it is as dependable as my Sabercat and at least as quick.
