Any advice that anyone could give me would be much appreciated!

We are looking to ride the Gaspe Peninsula again this year but instead of driving to Rimouski and starting from there, we are thinking of driving to the tip of Maine and having that be our starting point for the sleds. Couple of questions...

(1) Where is a nice & secure town in Maine to stay the first and last nights and leave our rigs for the week?
(2) What's the estimated trail mileage from the town in Maine to Rimouski?
(3) We are from PA. Do we need to purchase Maine registrations or permits if we are just taking off and going right to Quebec by sled? If so, what is needed and what's the cost?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

Well first sell the Poo and get a Doo no just jokeing, anywere in maine is a lot better then parking in canada (more safe) and as of Jan 1st i think is the date you have to have a passport to get into canada by any means of travel.

Any town in northern Maine is safe to leave your vehicles for the week. You will need to register your sleds in the state to ride in Maine. I left from Caribou last year and rode to Rimouski. From Caribou across to Portage up to Alagash, headed north and crossed into Canada at Estcourt. I cant remember the exact milage but I think it was around 300 miles. We did the Gaspe and came back through Campbelton NB and crossed back into Maine in Van Buren then down to Caribou. We stayed in Campbelton the last night, its only about 175 miles from Campbelton back to Caribou so it makes for an easy ride that last day. Always a great trip!!

That's very good to know. Thanks. I found out the registration costs from the Maine snow site:

REGISTRATION: The Maine snowmobile trail system operates on a sled registration system. There is no trail pass required, but all Maine residents and non-residents must register their sleds in Maine to ride in Maine.
Resident Registration is $33 (one year), commencing from July 1. Non-residents have three options - a 3 consecutive day registration is $43; 10 consecutive days is $58 and a full season is $68. (Plus an agent's processing fee of $1-$2) Non-resident registrations note the dates for which they are valid. You can register at numerous agent locations throughout the state - a list of Registration Agents is available on the IF & W site as well. You can also register through the mails or purchase a resident renewal or non-resident season registration on-line at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife web site .

if you get the season you can order on line as well as the canada trail pass

We were thinking Jackman to Rimouski or Jackman to Riviere Du Loup. DO you know what the mileages are by sled? I'm thinking about 200 & 180 miles respectively?

quebec to chicoutimi 296

add at least 1/2 hr to cross the line and if you are a big group give it a hour as they will pull you in

I got the map here as well but I figured I'd ask you the mileages anyway in case you've ever ridden those trails. Sometimes the distance on the map is quit different than actual !
