wondering how insurance works on a trailer? Once it is registered and has plates, do you need to put additional insurance on the trailer or does it automatically get get applied by your vehicle insurance?

I believe the liability part is covered by the vehicle as long as its connected. If you want fire and theft its extra.

liability follows the towing vehicle as long as it is under GVW of 4500kg .
As Mach said ....coll and comp must be purchased seperately.....then the trailer can be added to your auto or snowmobile policy

.....and..... you're sleds are NOT covered by the auto policy in the event of an "accident". If you are unfortunate and have a trailer mishap while driving, and wreck the sleds, unless your sled policy has collision coverage, you are on your own with that repair / replacement.

correct....they must be insured on their own auto policy ( ditto for ATV's and motorcyles)
