Took my primary off to clean and change weights and forgot to mark the inner sheave on previous clutches it seems that it always came back to that same mark anyways im not planning on changing any shims so will it be ok as long as the x are lined up on everything else?

It should have X's on all three parts of your driver clutch, The secondary or Driven Clutch does not have any marks but you can mark with a felt pen before taking it apart

The cover, spider & moveble sheave has the "X", but not the inboard sheave, and that's what he is asking about. You can be within one inch of the factory balance upon assembly on the inboard sheave, and that's considered "on"

Pretty close, depends on how tight you torque the spider.

Not to be nosey but what would a clutch balance check cost ? Can they be that far off ? I would think that a gram or so off that some clutch weight sets are from each other would ofset any balancing the clutch might have . Do you balance them bare or with a spring in them to take the slop out. What rpm are they balanced at ?

I find the factory balance is as good as the factory shimming. Mass production is not the best quality. Polaris fits everything and balances it once after assembly, I am not sure of their tolerences but they could be better. I always take mine apart and have the individual components balanced. Individually balanced parts mean no X's and no comprimises. I find the difference in lower engine virations quite noticable.

They are hand spun, not machine spun, most clutches, from Polaris anyhow, are quite good from the factory, it's when someone replaces bushings or reshims for belt clearance that sets them off some, clutches are balanced without springs or weights, and that's how the factory does it. What's nice about being able to balance, is let's say you have several clutches, but each one has something broken or worn out, I can use the parts to make a good clutch, balance it, and your good to go.
I charge $25 to balance if the clutch is clean, (dirt weighs something). Otherwise add a cleaning charge.
