I have an old .82 lug camoplast track that is installed backwards in my 98 xcr 440. Lately I have been going through hifax every 300 miles. The hifax is getting so hot that it's melting and sticking to the clips. I ride in plenty of loose powder and loose trails. All the bogies are installed and the only thing thats changed from last year is the direction of the track. Does anyone have any idea why the hifax is melting to the clips. Could it be the direction of the track??

It should not make that much difference which direction it is running. I would guess your track is too tight, or not aligned. Have 1" sag 16" ahead of the rear idlers, just under the rubber bumpers on the rail, and make sure you have equal distance from the rear axle idlers on each side.

Track direction makes no difference as far as hyfax wear. My guess is that your not breaking in your new hyfax properly. If new hyfax is installed and just run like normal, it WILL melt and fail early.(especially in low snow conditions) New hyfax needs to be tempered to withstand long term abuse. All you have to do is get it heated up with a little riding and then park it in some loose snow until completely cooled. (kick it in there if you have to) Usually one good tempering will do the trick but if you can to do it a couple/few times you should be good to go for thousands of miles. (unless your a mud runner) wink.gif

Oh yeah, like pockets said, track tension is a big culprit of premature hyfax wear.
