While re-installing my rear skid a couple weeks ago I decided to mount the rear of the skid onto the down plate just to try something different. Then I was told that sled is NOT supposed to run with the suspension mounted to those holes. Is this true and if so why? Thanks for any help.

Lowering the back to the lower mounting hole effectively removes weight from the front of the skid. The weight that the front of the skid WAS supporting, is now being carried by the front ski springs, and rear torsion springs - making it very difficult to maintain proper sag/ride height settings.
If you'd like the rear of the sled higher, if you haven't done so already, you might consider moving your front coupler block to a lower setting or to the forward hole for a try. That will have no effect on weight distribution, only forward coupling - which I find of questionable value for most riding. FWIW

Thanks. I guess I'll move them back to stock position then. I was aiming for more suspension protruding from the tunnel in hopes for better deep snow ability. BUT, I do a LOT of hard bump/trail riding so it's most likely safer to put back.

another reason is these edges have bad cooling near the back of the tunnel and lowering the suspension to those holes would decrease the amount of snow hitting the coolers. But if your going to be riding deep snow its fine or if you get the auxiliary rear cooler installed. Ive had my suspension located in these holes for 2000 miles and havnt had any problems and i do alot of aggressive trail riding and some off trail. My dealer installed the auxiliary cooler updated the coolant bottle and put on a longer snow flap on no cost. he said there was a recall about these parts.

Lowering the suspension will help snow clearance, but also result in a higher center of gravity.
I'd say leave it in the lower holes and give it a try , then put it back and see what you prefer.

I have the dealer Service and Repair Manual for the Edge Sleds, It covers all the settings for the rear suspention and exactly what these changes will effect. Also has a large section on clutch tunning, Lists all the secondary and Primary Helix, Springs and weights that polaris has for these sled and what effect any changes will have on preformance , rpm and shifting. I am going to get this manual scaned to a disk and I will post here in a week or so. It also has a sections for Extra 10 and and M10 set up and tunning not to mention all the regular section for electrical, carb's. Front suspention, this manual is more or less a Polaris Bible. Polaris Ind. should supply these manuals with every new sled insted of the little owners manual that only gives the vary basics of operating and servicing your sled.
One of my buddys that has an Edge was also told by the dealer that the rear skis should not be attached in the mounting holes below the running boards but I cant rember why it should not be in this position.
Those rear brackets where on my old 400 and 500 Indy sleds and I thought that dropping to the lower holes was to give more space between the top of the track and tunel to supply more room when riding in deep powder or braking trail to clear out from the tunnel and I have had the rear of the skid attached in that position for thousands of miles over the years and never had any problems..

Wish I would of waited a little while before ordering my repaire manual is ot that expensive but the dealer has no idea when im going to get it. I hate the dealer thats close to me, I just bought the polaris so I was at the dealer for the first time the other day I was the onlt person there and none of the staff even acknwledged me, the girl behind the counter didnt even know what a jet holder board was and they dont carry polaris key chains what so ever WTF!
Anybody else have this problem?
